Speaker connection to amp...jinhopark
Nov 21, 2001 7:19 AM
I am trying to connect some speakers to an older Mac amp, and instead of red/black or +/- it says comm and 2/4/8/16 (which is the ohms).

Do I put the black on comm or do I put the red on comm, and how would I know if I did it wrong? I guess it would just be out of phase and it would sound more hollow, but how would I know for sure???

It's simpler than you think. Assuming you have spade lugs on the cable, just connect the black spade to the "comm" terminal and the red spade to the terminal that most closely matches the rated impedance of your speaker system, probably the 8. Do exactly the same thing to the other channel as well.

In either case, the red/black relationship is not that critical as long as it is maintained on both cables. The above scenario could easily be reversed and phase integrity will still be maintained.

nice amp... enjoy.
