| Trouble stripping ends of speaker cable | kel7 Nov 25, 2001 9:42 AM | | I'm using Monster XP2S HT THX Certified Compact Precision Stranded High Resolution Speaker Cable with Magnetic Flux Tube and LPE Dielectric (this is what is printed on the side of the cable) I purchased from Crutchfield years ago for my mains and center. I'm wiring my speakers through the sub's inputs and outputs as the owner's manual suggests. When stripping the ends of the wire, there is a thick outer layer of insulation that comes off easily. However, under this is a waxy layer of insulation that is very hard to strip off. When doing so, it is almost impossible to get it off without fragments of the wire coming off as well. Is this ok? Or is it crucial to have every single strand of wire in place. If this is so, any suggestions to get both layers off cleanly? Is this pretty good speaker cable? --Or should I just get 12 gauge from home depot that I used for my surrounds--the insulation on this stripped off easily. If the THX certified cable I have is of better quality, I want to use it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Depending how much fragments:) But no, you don't need to account for every strand. |
