Read the Moderator's reply. Who's the loser?

I have no problem with arguing sides, or 2 sides with extremely different opinions. However, I will not stand for personal attacks or when people try to pretend to be other people or be misleading by using a similar monicker.

Warren warren you have already admitted to lying about things you claimed about being, so I don't see why you have a problem with me trying to keep the truth about other people intact.

Adam,

I have no problem with your removing the "Risch" threads for the reasons you've stated. The content was mostly light-hearted, but there was really only a single purpose to those posts. But, there were a number of very active threads with diverse "contributions" removed as well. It seems that those were ones initiated by Warren Warren and CKTurtle eliciting response from other various posters. Insofar as whatever identity fabrication has been uncovered with respect to WW (I didn't catch those posts apparently), how are others meant to establish a context for his future contributions without the evidence of those previous threads?

From a more selfish standpoint, after being "away" for several weeks, I made four carefully worded posts in the last day or two, and three of them have vanished (two with humorous intent and one of a more serious nature).

I am sure I'm not alone in questioning the value of personal time and energy spent creating clever or constructive retorts to add to some of these crazy threads, but when the product of 20 minutes of mostly nonproductive time-killing vanishes with little exposure, it becomes increasingly difficult to justify posting at all. That's not a threat...just an introspective observation from an occasional-poster's point of view who, some would say, sometimes has some useful substance to contribute to these hollow debates.

unforuntately john the way this software operates if I delete an innapropriate post that has 10 responses lets say. and in those 10 responses 4 are good responses. If i just delete the 6 bad ones then entire thread makes no sense. Thus I typically delete the entire thread. Sorry if it bothered you.
don't act this way, its a bad reflection on me, as I ..Adaom

Not that anyone cares, but it bothered me, too. Would you, in the future, consider posting a warning? Or would you consider taking a vote on some that are not obviously inappropriate???

Also...how do you deem a specific thread inappropriate? I understand the obvious ones (attacks and such), but there were some (deleted) that I found to be "OK" as far as I can recall. For example, what was wrong with my thread: "Cables & Interconnects"? Granted, I probably didn't get a chance to read any possible responses which may have been offensive, so maybe that's why it vanished. My intent in starting that one was to try and put people back on the track of the topic of this forum. And I was absolutely one of the guilty parties who strayed from it in the first place, I might add.

One more quickie: You stated somewhere that you generally tend to agree with Mtry (for one, anyway). How (or why), then, did you obtain the job of moderator for the forum "Cables & Interconnects"? I mean...if you usually agree with Mtry, then I assume that you, too, don't believe that there are any audible differences between cables. Is this a correct assumption? And, if so, are you then able to be objective about deleting whatever you feel is inappropriate? And why would you even be interested in overseeing a forum that (I think) would likely be based upon people's cable preferences, seeking of advice of which ones might be better for their needs...etc., if you (I'm still assuming) don't think any of that is even worthy of discussion since they all sound the same? I'd think you'd be bored silly with such talk if my assumptions are correct. And those, admittedly, are big assumptions...

Just to clarify...my questions to you are not intended to be tongue-in-cheek or anything like that. I'm honestly curious to learn everything about which I've inquired. Thanks.

1. These trolls have been given pleanty of warning.
2. Attacks, fake monickers, etc are an instant deletion.
3. I am the moderator for all the forums which means I see at least 350 threads a day. I don't have the chance to take sides.
4. I don't see with my not believing in cables means I shouldn't be a moderator. I don't stick my head in and get into these debates. I very rarely post in this forum at all.
5. I think I stay pretty objective on all the forums and while some have raised some of the same questions you have I think for the most part I stay pretty behind the scenes.
6. Most of the deleteing or editing is done in the General forum which is just filled with trolls. The rest of the forums usually have a smart enough user base to simply engage in thoughtful discussions.
7. If we were to extend your fear about a person leaning one way or the other on the cables argument, then we should have a person whow knows nothing about Home Theater or Electronics being the moderator since they would then be 100% objective. But honestly how much sense does that make?

"If we were to extend your fear about a person leaning one way or the other on the cables argument, then we should have a person whow knows nothing about Home Theater or Electronics being the moderator since they would then be 100% objective. But honestly how much sense does that make?"

Firstly, I don't recall having expressed fear; I simply requested an answer to my questions, for which I thank you. I did, however, say that I was upset over certain deletions, but that's ok. I'm over it.

Secondly, now that you've mentioned it, perhaps your hypothetical situation (wherein "a person whow knows nothing about Home Theater or Electronics" would be the moderator "since they would then be 100% objective") sounds like a winner!

If you make few contributions in the way of posting...if you have too little time to take sides...if you don't involve yourself in the debates...and, primarily, if your main goal is to prevent attacks, usage of fake monickers, etc., why wouldn't any reasonably intelligent person who's able to recognize such things be qualified? Why would they need to be well-versed in any area of audio or home theater?

Not that you're not doing a fine job...Thanks again for answering so promptly.

Instead of deleting whole threads, could you 'replace' the offensive posts with a notice of deletion? Say something that says, " from was deleted because "

You make valid points. Why bother posting if our posts are edited due to less than relevant "contributions". Though I understand the software issues too. I think it comes to this. While ALL forums will run into this problem - inapropriate contributions - if we find a site to be deleting more of the legitmate contributions than we wish, perhaps its time to find another site that is more in-line with our needs or interests. I've accepted AR for what it is, and what it IS NOT.

Hey Adam- I guess you took me seriously when I said I found a new band called Pink Floyd? Do you really think there are a lot of Brittany and Back Street Boys fans on this site, much less this chat area? I was trying to inject a little humor into an area where people seem to take themselves much too seriously (me included, at times)! I will say the same thing to you that I said to Mtry- Lighten UP!

warren unfortunately with all the immature trolls that have popped up I have no choice but to take a no questions asked approach. As for humour, I have no problems with humor at all, it is the misplaced humour that I have a problem with.

Is this your way of apology for calling me an outright liar? I have to tell you that I have been more offended by your statement then by everyone else here combined. I thought my post was OBVIOUSLY humorous, especially the reference to "Record Players", rather than turntables. Also, have you ever known any 12 year old girls to write so eloquently about something as mundane as a piece of wire? I would appreciate either a formal apology in it's own thread, or the deletion of this entire series of threads, which you seem so fond of doing. Your cooperation will be appreciated, and I will refrain from using anything that could be misconstrued as humor in the future. From now on, as Sgt. Friday would say, "Just the Facts". I'm sure Mtry, Mark, MMike, and the others will be happy to know that they have won by default. I guess all the cable advertisers that use your forum will have to go elsewhere as well. In fact, maybe I should write JPS labs and let them know that their products are being bashed on the very site that they pay good money to for advertising. Hmmmm....
