| Mr. Moderator sir. | Dick Hertz Nov 28, 2001 12:45 PM | | In view of the recurring "bash mtrycrafts" postings, perhaps you should start a new forum where warranted or not, criticism of individuals could be posted. That way, if someone has an axe to grind with someone else, it could be done on the appropriate forum, instead of wasting space here. Like the late gossip columnist Hedda Hopper said, "If you can't say something nice about someone, sit next to me!" |
| re: Mr. Moderator sir. | Adam Nov 28, 2001 12:47 PM | | Unfortunately bud, its not my call. you'll have to talk to apul about that one. sorry. |
| re: Mr. Moderator sir. | GCM Nov 28, 2001 12:59 PM | | Perhaps threads started for the sole purpose of disparaging somebody could be terminated with a reminder of the rules and a follow up email. It's one thing to disagree with someone, but threads that exist only to cast aspersions on a poster's character shouldn't be tolerated. |
| If it can be dealt with immediately, OK. | John McHugh Nov 28, 2001 1:56 PM | | I don't feel comfortable swimming upstream here, but in the same way that a constructive discussion or simple question can degenerate into a flame war, so can a disparaging initial post spawn constructive or entertaining sub-threads (granted which post falls under which category is, in itself, subject to debate). The recent purging of posts seemed completely arbitrary, other than the subject headings of the initial posts. Scanning the page as it stands now, how many of the remaining posts are constructive? informative? on-topic? funny? Arguably not many, but we won't find any general agreement on any of this.
There's no perfect way to manage a message board, but I feel it's far better to err on the side of letting mildly insulting posts stand and be judged by whomever cares to read them. I don't know of many posters here that aren't capable of defending or willing to defend themselves, and nothing is required reading.
The worst solution is one where nobody wants to take the time to offer intelligent input, because of who knows what some idiot might have said earlier in the thread that might place any additional contributions on borrowed time.

I agree. Censorship sucks. I can weed through the crud to get to the meat of things...and I'm not referring to Mr. Hertz here... |
| sure | Adam Nov 29, 2001 5:36 AM | | you can, I can, and all the regulars can, because we know what the meat is. But in order to expand AR and build the community there needs to be at a minimum a semi-pleasant environment.
Newbies are more likely to be turned away if they have to sift through 15 compltely ridiculous bogus posts to get information. |

I agree.

Uhh...Information? Here???
Don't you think newbies are even more likely to be turned away after some smarta** answers to one of their serious questions???
As you might know, I haven't been around here for long. But I've read numerous posts in which a "newbie" (I assume...or why would they come here for friendly feedback or advice?) poses an honest question or request for advice and receives mostly arrogant, know-it-all nonsense in return. Have you missed these types of posts??? Or are you in agreement with the kinds of "answers" the poor newbies usually receive?
Furthermore...if you point me toward a few threads that contain less bogus posts than informative ones, I'll be surprised. |

| re: Mr. Moderator sir. | Dick Hertz Nov 28, 2001 2:56 PM | | Glad I use MY real name! |
| re: Mr. Moderator sir. | Warren Warren Nov 28, 2001 3:13 PM | | Maybe you would change your name if you didn't play with it so much! |

| re: Mr. Moderator sir. | Eyespy Nov 28, 2001 5:50 PM | | It is my humble opinion that this is by far your best contribution to date. Remember, as I said earlier, though it may not have been to you specifically, you don't know what Mr. Hertz has been through. It's not a pretty picture. |
| Oy! | Dick Hertz Nov 28, 2001 6:16 PM | | ...the public humiliation, the surgeries, the rehab... Will it ever end? |
| Oy! | Eyespy Nov 28, 2001 8:59 PM | | Hang in there, Mr Hertz. You'll um...pull through it okay. |
| dude, you won't get deleted but I would have... | Adaom Nov 28, 2001 12:49 PM | | ...had i made that suggestion. that proves adam is an idiot, or at least that c jo is a slave and nympho sl*t |
