do CD-Rs really damage players?tylerc

I have a Yamaha DVD player and a stock (Nissan) car stereo, which both manuals say CD-Rs will damage them.

Do I really risk damaging my players by playing CD-Rs?

Thanks

How about a direct quote from that manual so we know what you're talking about.

A digital disc player has 2 things typically that interact with the disc itself. A motor/platform setup to spin the disc and a laser to read the disc. I don't see how a correct-size disc of any software format can damage the motor/platform. I don't see how the laser can be damaged by the disc at all. Unless the disc is broken or severly warped. Everything else is just software. I suppose somebody could come up with some trick to screw up a particular model's firmware, kinda like a virus, and stick that on a CDR to crash the machine. But when these machines crash they typically just need to be reset anyway.

So this sounds like complete crap to me. Maybe you're just misunderstanding the manuals. Or they were translated poorly.
