Sony 777 es & audio interconnects - Help!!!sgorak

I'm a newbie trying to hookup my system. I hooked up my DVD to my 777es using a Monster audio interconnect cable (MOC I400MKII2M) . I only have a set of front speakers now, and they are connected using Monster XP. The problem is that after watching a DVD for about 30 minutes, as I adjusted the volume, the receiver shutdown. I made sure everything was connected properly, and there were no wires touching each other (right and left front speaker). When I powered everything back on, I had a picture..but no audio.

Someone I spoke to at sony explained that I needed to use 16 guage speaker wire with this receiver. Is this true? I thought the Monster XP is 16 guage? Do I need a 16 guage audio interconnect, from the DVD to the receiver?

Any assistance would be appreciated!!! Thanks.

My understanding is that the XP is 16 ga, so it should be fine. What does Sony think you are using? Speaker wires will not cause it to shut down. Interconnects are not rated by ga, so what you have is fine for analog audio outs.

ok I own this receiver also, I have put together a page on it, check it out, it has a ton of useful info on this great receiver as well as the firmware upgrades.

Ok on to your problem, My first question would be what kind of speakers are you running? How Many ohms are they? and is the ohms switch on the back of the receiver set to the correct position for your speakers?

if your speaker wires touched, the receiver wouldn't have shut down, it would just have gone into protect mode, so we can cross that out.

also, 16 gauge is fine, I run 12, but i don't care what gauge you run, the receive won't shut down from it.

does just your dvd have no audio or everything?

I would look at the audio split and make sure that the video and audio sorces are the same.

Make sure that the audio selection is right auto/digital/analog

if all else fails I would try to clear the memory and see if that corrects your problem.

don't worry we will get this worked out, i have a ton of experience with this receiver as you can tell by the web site.

and don't forget, ES models have a 5 year warranty
