| Balanced or singled ended? That's the question. | Latino Jun 22, 2002 9:46 AM | | I'm interested in changing to balanced interconnects between my processor(Anthem) and amplifiers (Bryston). As you know interconnect swapping can be quite expensive, but I'll give it a try if sound is improved. I'm currently looking at Monster studio plus 1000 mic cable as my interconnects. Any experience with this cable or any other suggesions?

| Which Bryston model do you own? | jamesgeib Jun 22, 2002 1:48 PM | | I am using a decent pair of Vampire XLR interconnects (CCCII) between my Anthem AVM20 and MCA50. They were about $60 each. They work well. What cables are you currently using? |

While balanced is theoretically better, there are, it seems, many ways for implementing them incorrectly and only one right way. Per the article most manufavturers have choosen to do it in one of the incorrect ways. Message: you will need to know how each component that has XLRs has connected them internally. RCAs though inferior in some regards, offer fewer opportunities to do it wrong! |

Done properly, there won't be any audible differences, but as SAM9 mentioned, incorrectly done balanced outputs have the potential of being worse.

| Another AVM20 Owner... | Warren Warren Jun 24, 2002 2:15 PM | | ...and love it. Just had to stick in my 2 cents worth. I have been very happy with my RCA connections, but eventually want to change over to some different, perhaps balanced, amps. Please let me know what your experiences are if/when you do the swap. Thanks!
