| Help on cables/adapters | poneal Oct 28, 2003 12:46 PM | | I just purchased an 8 channel mixer/amp combo from e-bay and the inputs are either XLR or 1/4" jacks. My DVD player only has the RCA jacks. What do i need to buy to connect my DVD RCA out jacks to the 1/4" jacks on the mixer? Also i am assuming that the 1/4" jacks are mono, so, do i need to connect the left out of the dvd player to a single channel and the right to another channel? I'm a newbie at this mixer thing so any help would be appreciated. Oh, in case your wondering why i want to route my DVD to the mixer is that I want to mix my vocals with the sound tracks from the DVD and then route the new mix to my reciever and out to my speakers. Thanks, Paul. |

If you must have gold plated adaptors, they cost $1.80 each

| re: Help on cables/adapters | poneal Oct 28, 2003 3:18 PM | | thanks for the links. should i get a rca y-adapter to 1/4" or just keep the channels separate? |
| re: Help on cables/adapters | poneal Oct 28, 2003 3:23 PM | | Part II: also the mixer i bought only has one 1/4" aux out jack. when i connect this to my receiver will it still be in stereo or mono? and again, i guess this is where i would need the y-adapter to send both mono signals to both channels in the receiver? thanks in advance. |

You can probably also get them from several other outlets, such as parts express, markertek, or other stores that cater to pro-audio.
Yes, each channel is mono, although some boards do have stereo inputs, so it will help to read your owners manual to make sure of what you have.
You'll then need to pan each channel all the way right or left, respectively, to maintain the stereo effect.

I'm new with mixers and didn't find anything about panning. Could you explain what you mean by pan. Thanks for your time. Paul |
| re: Help on cables/adapters | FLZapped Oct 29, 2003 12:16 PM | | Some boards assign the channel to the output buss in pairs. So if that is the case and you use channels one and two, you would need to pan ch1 left and ch1 right, because your only choice is to assign each channel to BOTH buss outputs one and two. Mackie is big on this arrangement.
