| re: Best 5.1 audio in film Whats yours | ILuvDTS Apr 10, 2001 7:37 PM | | Gladiator has the best 5.1DTS sound I've ever heard. Sooooo.....clean and tight and crisp. I specially like the scene with the Tigers in the arena. I felt like I was right in the center of the action with the Tigers roaring around me. |

Saving Private Ryan
Titan A.E.
Way of the Gun
Star Wars Episode 1
Toy Story 2 |
| oops, forgot to mention... | sumdumgi Apr 10, 2001 11:32 PM | | Star Wars was on Laser Disc, bought in Hong Kong (a legitimate digital studio copy in English), played on a Pioneer Elite LD/DVD player with PCM output and mutli-region playback. The podrunner race was unbeatable-- seemless in a Yamaha A-1 7.1 setup with KEF 100 series speakers and Energy MicroStar subwoofer. There were other amazing scenes such as the dive into the center of the planet, the battle scene, etc. I didn't care much for the movie itself though. |

Toy Story 2
Das Boot |
| re: Best 5.1 audio in film | Max Apr 11, 2001 7:26 AM | | Based only on best sound and not content, and use of all 5.1 speakers not just a subwoofer, I would have to pick the following:
A Bug's Life (unique sounds and voices from every speaker throughout the movie)
Air Force One (ch. 33, enough said...nothing beats it)
T2 special edition (Both DTS and DD sounded great)
Rules of Engagement (guns, helicopers, mosquitos, the enemy...all around me)
The Abyss SE (It's been a while since I saw this, but I remember it having a lot of 5.1 effects, like all of James Cameron's DVD releases except Titanic, which I hope he re-releases) |
| re: Best 5.1 audio in film Whats yours | Keith from Canada Apr 11, 2001 7:59 AM | | Lots of good ones mentioned but you won't find one that can compete with Saving Private Ryan in DTS. It's becoming somewhat dated now but I have yet to hear a disc that could come close to the assault on the auditory senses that SPR gives. Other notables from my collection include:
Das Boot
Dantes Peak (DTS)
Godzilla (known for its bass but also has some great panning!)
The Lost World (mainly for the bass) |
| Tough Tough Tough I Split Mine | Adam Apr 11, 2001 9:45 AM | | 5.1 Audio
Legends of The Fall
Devil's Advocate
Meet Joe Black
5.1 Audio For Effects
Replacement Killers
Tomorow Never Dies
Phantom Mencae |

| re: Best 5.1 audio in film Whats yours | samiam Apr 11, 2001 1:31 PM | | Das Boot - awsome sound seems to be very popular in this post - Talk about being right in the middle of the action- this is the one.
The new Exorcist
Saving Private Ryan
Gladiator DTS |
| re: Best 5.1 audio in film Whats yours | Rickfromthesticks Apr 11, 2001 3:28 PM | | My list:
Saving Private Ryan (DTS)
T-2 (Either format)
Titan AE (DD seemed better to me)
U571 (Unreal bass, my windows wish I would trade it)
The Haunting
The Eagles Hell Freezes Over |
| Evil Dead 2 THX | jak Apr 26, 2001 4:05 PM | | Has anyone else seen the DVD version of this movie. This is hard to expain but... there is a scene in this movie where the characters are looking around the room as they are being bombared with different sounds. Anyway, as they look around the room, the sounds are isolated to the speaker in the locations they are looking at. |
