How about most "moving" movie fav and whypuffum

I figured since we're on list, let's do this one too. Two for me: The Deer Hunter - I think mainly because I was just at the age to begin appreciating good drama and really understanding what affects Vietnam were having back home "after the fact" My all time favorite movie. The other has to be Saving Private Ryan. The most moving part for me was once the movie ended seeing and hearing several war vets openly sobbing and weeping in the theatre. There are several others that have made me pause and contemplate, even make me cry, but these two stand out for me.

Shawshank Redemption -- the perfect revenge movie combined with some of the best character development that I've ever seen. The entire film is about the strength of the human spirit and the film describes that spirit perfectly. I've seen it a dozen times and it never fails to choke me up.

What Dreams May Come--I don't even like the movie that much, but it's so skillful at manipulating emotions, it gets me every time. I know I'm being manipulated, but it works.

Good call on The Deer Hunter. Boy is that depressing.

Other stirring movies include:

Less than Zero
The Sweet Hereafter
The Day After
Breaking the Waves

This movie always moves me deeply. It's a small Italian film from the mid 80's that won the oscar for best 4in film.

It's about a small Italian village and a young kid's friendship with the projectionist of the towns theater. The kid grows up obsessed with movies, practically living in the theater. The film covers the usual coming of age stuff as only the Italians can, with a healthy and humorous obsession with sex. The end of the film, when he goes back to the village after 20 years for the funeral of the projectionist ties the entire story up and is very sad, yet uplifting. I try not to watch it too often (I've seen it 4 times since the mid 80's) so that it doesn't become old and predictable for me. I never cry at movies, but I always do at this one . . .

Good stuff.

This is certainly the most moving movie I have ever seen. I rank Cinema Paradiso in the top three of my all time favorite movies.

I would have to say "Field of Dreams". I love Baseball the way it was when I was young. When the game was played by Giants and Heroes. The way it was before I lost my innocence and the players were reduced to money-grubbing millionaires.

I remember playing catch with my dad in the front yard of our home. Now we can hardly talk to each other. I wish I had a second chance to go back and play catch, again, with my dad.

Good examples are already mentioned. Some not yet mentioned IMO include "Alive" (not on DVD, unfortunately, as this is among the most moving films ever released), "Frequency", and some of the more contemplative scenes and narratives in "The Thin Red Line". John Caviezel is in the last two, and is an incredible actor with unsurpassed emotional conveyance. Just incredible, and exceptionally memorable performances.

Good call - this is my favorite movie of ALL time. I also love Malick's other 2 films, Badlands and Days of Heaven.

my favorite movie, but just to see those battle scenes and knowing that that's how they used to fight, just makes me shudder! Great acting, gave you a sense of what it was like back in that period, although that may not have been exactly the way things happened, it was enough to give you an idea.

Love this movie!!

Boy, if there was ever a sports movie where the entire buildup is towards a single play, this is it.

For those of you who saw the movie, you know what play I mean. Didn't you just jump out of your seat like it was the final kick of a Super Bowl game? I love those movies where everyone tells the main character he can't make it and proves them wrong through sheer determination. You just can't teach stuff like that.

I would also like to throw in Apocolyse Now for an emotional roller-coaster ride that left an impression on me for a very long time.
