| Platoon (yet again) SE DVD for June | Kelly W Apr 12, 2001 9:08 AM | | Just came across this announcement. Hmmm . . . Apparently they are releasing an anamorphic DVD and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the sound quality as well. I bought the first one and the picture is crap and the sound is crap. Lots and Lots of extras though but I would rather have the movie in as pristine a presentation as it truly deserves. Absolutely top notch film. Tom Berenger has never been more convincing as he is in that movie. "Y'all loved Elias . . . And you want to kick ass . . . Well, here I am, all on my lonesome . . . Kill me!" (etc,. etc,.) |
| Got to agree with you... | puffum Apr 12, 2001 9:19 AM | | One of my favorite movies and I am deeply disappointed in the transfer quality. Others sem to praise it(??) Audio is way to harsh and seems to differ in quality throughout, and c'mon, the video can be twice what it is now (looks like I'm watching VHS) So let's keep our fingers crossed - wouldn't DTS be nice also? |
| Got to agree with you... | Kelly W Apr 12, 2001 10:02 AM | | Yeah! DTS! Maybe some industry insider will see our posts and clue us in on what to expect. I would like to see a reissue of "5th Element" too. Lots of extras like commentary and interviews with (deep breath) Mmmmmilllla Jovovich! Also, how about a reissue of "Unforgiven." Boy does that movie deserve some attention! I guess the industry is still so new that we are bound to see an incredible amount of improvment in all areas of DVD. Which means Joe consumer like you and me get to buy the same movie over and over and over (what's a guy to do?) |
| Argument for rental I guess... | puffum Apr 12, 2001 10:33 AM | | Check out the earlier post for How Many DVDs do you own... |
| re: Platoon = Blatant Communist Propaganda Film | Mike Mc Apr 12, 2001 4:03 PM | | Note the American armored vehicle at the end of the movie flying the Nazi battle flag.
Note the evil, imperialist American soldiers murdering the crippled kid and the old lady, shooting the livestock and burning the foodstuffs, and then torching the peace-loving Vietnamese village.
Note the American soldiers killing each other.
What a bunch of crap! |

| Please, not again. Give it a rest. (and seek professional help) | Mike Mc Apr 13, 2001 8:20 AM | | My uncle (Mom's brother), whom I do not remember because I was too young, was killed in Vietnam by one of those little commie bastards. To see American soldiers in an Oliver Stone movie flying a Nazi battle flag really irks me.
That is my opinion. This board is for people to express their opinions. You do not have to agree with my opinion. |
| Please, not again. Give it a rest. (and seek professional help) | EdwinGene Apr 14, 2001 10:47 PM | | I can respect your position, and I'm sorry for your loss.
However, my point was that you have subjected this board to this diatribe before, and we all know your point of view. It's OK to read once, but reading it again and seeing your anger again, begins to look like an unhealthy obsession on your part. You won't change anyone's mind about this movie, and if you're trying to do that you will just end up being disappointed and getting more angry. I know this from personal experience.
Don't ever forget your uncle, but please stop letting things like this chew you up on the inside. It doesn't help anything. |
| Wake up hippie bastard | American Apr 12, 2001 9:25 PM | | That is War....friendly charlies my ASS...I LOST MANY FRIENDS...WERE YOU THERE...DON'T YOU DARE DEFAME US ignorant kid...BE HAPPY YOU STILL HAVE A RIGHT TO SPEAK THOSE WORDS, COWARD. |
| Wake up hippie bastard | EdwinGene Apr 14, 2001 11:08 PM | | I did not defame anyone. I respect Mike Mc's position, and yours. I have an uncle who served in Viet Nam, and who came home safe and sound, thank God. I also served proudly in the U.S. Army for four years (enlisted not drafted), so be careful who you are calling a coward.
Maybe you don't know, but this has come up on this board, before. I read Mike's earlier posts on this subject, and they were just like the present one. They were full of anger. Not pleasant to read, but I could respect what he had to say.
My point was that Mike had already lashed out at this movie once on this same board. Posting it once, I can see. Doing the exact same thing again, with as much anger as is in those posts, well, I, for one, don't care to see it again. I also think that maybe so much anger in a person is not good. What happened has happened and still being so angry about it (especially at least 27 years later) doesn't change anything, and only eats away at a person's soul. |
| Wake up hippie bastard | American Apr 16, 2001 3:38 PM | | Son, my soul was eating many years ago and anger always remains...It is honorable you served your country but unless you were in actual combat and enlisted in time of war and not in time knowing there is peace, makes a man very angry when a kid like this makes comments about a situation he or you know nothing about. Respectfully |

| See Bob Kerry shoot. See Bob Kerry shoot Vietnamese civilians. | KevB Apr 30, 2001 5:24 PM | | See a platoon of American GI's kill Vietnamese civilians. See American GI's be decorated as war heros.
Hmmm. Didn't someone make a movie about something like that happening? |
