I thought this film was very good. It was fresh and inovative. Any one else have opinions? Like or dislike?

I thought this was excellent--very funny, but kind of a pathetic guy.

That was the documentary about guy with the 1978 haircut tring to make a low budget horror movie, right? Saw it in the theater last year. I liked it. You don't know whether to laugh or feel sad for these people. What a pack of misguided losers.

The best film in this genre has to be "Crumb", about the infamous family of the great 60's and 70's underground cartoonist Robert Crumb. He did the "Keep on Truckin' " guy and tons of other equally memorable illustrations from the era.

What a freaky family! His mother is a monster. What makes Crumb better than "American Movie" is that the "Star" of the film is actually talented. You get to see a lot of his process which is endlessly fascinating. The fact that his equally talented, but metally disabled older brother committed suicide right after the filming makes it even more poignant. Great movie, but hard to watch at times.

I saw and liked Crumb too. A real slice of the reality of life.

Crumb really is the high water mark for this kind of movie.

As for American Movie, I thought it was pretty great. I know what you mean about not knowing if you should laugh or feel sorry. But after I watched it a second time I found it quite depressing. This is really just a movie about a guy's wasted life chasing a pipe dream. The worst part is that you can tell that this is slowly, very slowly, starting to sink in for the guy. It's sad because it certainly isn't for lack of drive or desire--just no talent whatsover. Then again, Michael Bay may have gotten his start this way. ;-)
