I don't think JP 3 will be # 1 this summer...Tweeter

I don't know about anyone else, but this dinosaur thing is wearing a little thin on originality. I expect it to be in the top ten box office ...say 3rd or 4th after Tomb Raider and Pearl Harbour...that's my uneducated guess.
The Spinosaurus will probably make it worthwhile..AR2

Two or three years without a dino movie, the anticipation is sure to increase. I, for one, cant wait to see the rumored "confrontation" between the spinosaurus? and the t-rex. Silly, it maybe, but vicious it definitely will be.
I hope you're right...Tweeter

I really liked JP 1. I even bought the DVD.
I was bored watching JP 2...it's plot never captured the imagination of the first one. Didn't buy this on DVD.
I hope that JP 3 isn't riding on the coat-tails of the others. It has to break new ground in effects and dramatic storyline to out do itself. I hope it can but I'm sceptical about the possibility.

I think Planet of the Apes might be the upset. If it's done fairly well it should take top honors.

Does Fellowship of the Rings count as a summer movie? That one could be absolutely huge too.

Planet of the Apes has the monkey on its back (sorry about that) of the original movie. If Tim Burton can avoid negative comparisons with the original and give the audience an original one-two punch of his own, then the movie has a chance to be really big.

The Fellowship of the Ring, I think, will be a top ten, but I don't think it will seriously challenge for No. 1. The "Frodo Lives!" era is too far in the past to generate the needed excitement to push this movie over the top.

I think that, unfortunately, there is still enough oomph left in Dinosaur mania to make Jurassic Park III the number one movie this summer. As long as the movie doesn't get just plain silly, as repeated sequels have a tendency to do (does anyone sincerely think the third, fourth, and fifth original "Ape" movies were really any good?)
A vote for 'Pearl Harbor'JazzHead

In fact, I think it may turn out to be one of the biggest moneymakers of all time. It has the combination of defining historical event, romance, and state-of-the-art effects that made 'Titanic' a monster. Also like 'Titanic,' its appeal cuts across boundaries. The testosterone crowd will come out for the action, Michael Bay, the effects, and Ben Affleck, while young females will be drawn by Affleck and the romance plot played out against a grand historical canvas. Most important, it has the potential to pull tremendous numbers of older, pre-boomer viewers in. The attack on Pearl Harbor is probably the single most galvanizing event of their lives, and a full-out historical recreation could be as much as a must-see for them as 'Saving Private Ryan' & 'Schindler's List.'

Pearl Harbor could be a huge upset. maybe it will do good in US, but it doesnt have intl appeal. somehow i cant see the success of titanic repeating in this movie.
good point ...JazzHead

... "Titanic" made a big chunk'o'change in Japan - "Pearl Harbor"'s success there could depend on how the Japanese point of view is presented.

Overall, the overseas BO may rely on the romance over the history -
the US Civil War is not a big topic in other countries, but "Gone With the Wind" has done well on the strength of the love story.

Sylvester Stallone in a re-tooled Days of Thunder? It wasn't that good the first time around.
JP3 will flop without GoldblumSSpielberg

not really but whats a movie without dramatic lines "thats how its always starts but then there's running and screamin.." not to mention his ridiculous show of ambivalence and idiotic behaviour.
