| YES!!!! It's official, StarsWarsEpisodeOne is coming to DVD | GeorgeJ Apr 23, 2001 8:31 PM | | I just read about it in the latest issue of WidescreenReview(issue #48). They said it should be out by the end of this year, maybe before Thanksgiving. I dont recall any info on the other three movies though. |
| old news but exciting | Aggie Apr 23, 2001 9:57 PM | | i've been waiting for it too; here's more info
Well... for once, one of Harry Knowles spies may have come through for him. Ain't it Cool News is reporting that October 16th is going to be the street date for Fox's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 2-disc DVD special edition. So IS that the street date? Could be. There's a lot of time between now and then, however, so we'll have to wait and see... ;-)

| I'll believe it when I see it (old news but exciting) | Scott Strang May 13, 2001 6:46 PM | | Probably most people will believe the movie is coming to DVD when they actually see it. I will buy it simply because I liked the look and feel of the movie and, of course, John Williams' music accompanied by the scenery.
One thing about that movie that annoyed the hell out of was the term
"are you brain dead?...." being used at least twice in the movie. Come on, think of something else. That term being used more than once is too much.
Fox has been cranking out some superb DVD's lately with Alien being the real stand out in my mind as what broke the ice for Fox video. |
| Star Wars | The Insider May 21, 2001 4:00 AM | | The News is that the STar Wars movies will not be released until all movies are finished, released and episode 3 is ready for DVD. So, in essence all 6 Star Wars movies will be released at the same time and may be purchased all together or it may be purchased seperately. |
| George Lucas can kiss my... | Anime Guru Apr 24, 2001 7:46 AM | | I am sooooo sick of hearing all of his hype. The way that he stalls things until the market is practically begging for it and then charges double the price of any other movie at about 1/3 of the quality. He will probably force the retailers to build a special addition to their store to house the new DVD. Obviously there will be a state of the art DLP projector hooked up to a progressive scan DVD player with a high end line quadrupler somewhere in between (and it must run the pod race over and over and over and over, until you are so sick of it that you will pay Lucas for a 5 minute reprieve so that your eyes can de-glaze and you might actually escape from its clutches). And of course there will be store employees racing mini-pods around the room dressed as your favorite characters whoe fighting each other with plastic light sabers (available excusively from Mattel). Not to mention the fact that 2 months after he releases it, he will declare it to be obsolete and release a new digitally raped, super charged, all in one, fantabulous DVD in a new bundled pack with the collectable movie poster with a real imitation aluminum foil Lucas logo and the mail in certificate for the commemorative plate of fanboys kissing Lucas' hairy white ass. Plus, totally different extras than were on the original (at least that's what he will say, in reality they will just have been dubbed into Mandarin or something else obscure and added 13 seconds of never before seen cut footage). I tell you what though... if he changes the script, re-shoots the entire movie, cuts out all of his CG crap that really wasn't very convincing, and replaces that damned Jar Jar with something of a moderately higher intelligence I will definitely maybe think really hard about buying it. Ep. 1 the movie (if you can really call it that, I call BS that suckered people into spending their hard earned money on absolute crap), well.... the pods went fast and that was neat. Oh yeah, and it had flashing lights and really loud THX optimized sound too!! Of course, feel free to draw your own conclusions and make your own decisions as this is all only my opinion. |

| I Agree George Can Go #@%!& Himself | Adam Apr 24, 2001 2:12 PM | | How many times do you need to rape the public.
Movie Theater: 18 bucks for tix for 2
Original VHS release: 19.99
Special Edition VHS: 19.99
Limited Edition VHS: 19.99
The Edition With The Extra Footage: 19.99
And of Course The New one With Interviews About EP II: 19.99
Let's see he has milked Episode 4 for nearly 120.00 not including tax. Yes I feel that it's great marketing, but George has gotten a littlt too full of himself. I'm not bitter just annoyed at the way he does things. |
| Edisode 4?????? | Brian87 Apr 30, 2001 9:42 PM | | You probAbly meant episode2 or im wrong.....but anyway you guys are right this is what we call "Greed" |
| The first Star Wars movie is Episode 4 | will_b May 15, 2001 11:21 AM | | "Star Wars" (the first movie released) is Episode 4, "The Empire Strikes Back" is 5, "Return of the Jedi" is 6. |
| The first Star Wars movie is Episode 4 | bstar113 May 22, 2001 3:17 AM | | I think the first movie, "Star Wars : A New Hope" is episode 4
so the series is Star Wars, I dont know what Episode 1 was called.
It put me asleep anyway

| George Lucas can kiss my... | Oscar Apr 26, 2001 8:16 PM | | I agree. I will probably get the DVD if it comes letter-boxed, THX DTS with a decent sound mix and all the rest of the frills. I will not be buying the several different versions he will probably try to put out to squeeze as much money as he can out of us. Shucks, I missed out on paying bucks on the VHS versions... |
| George Lucas can kiss my... | Captain Lionheart May 3, 2001 12:02 AM | | I totally agree! I thought Episode one was so bad and just in so many ways. Liem Nesson, however you spell his name, did a really dull acting job. The pod race sceen was WAAAAAYYYYY too long. The biggest thing was his underplaying Darth Maul. The guy didn't have nearly as big a part as he should and died way to soon. The movie just didn't seem like Star Wars. Of course this is just my opinion as well.

| George Lucas can kiss my... | Robert-The-Rambler May 4, 2001 10:13 AM | | I myself will never buy another Star Wars/George Lucas product other than the original trilogy completely separate from any of the other the "Star Wars" movies in their original theatrical release format minus the special edition "enhancements" of George Lucas's definitive vision, and on DVD. Since that will never happen that means I will never buy another George Lucas product again.(A real big loss that will be) In the name of all that is holy and sacred in this world I give George Lucas a virtual flip of the bird and I say that he knows where he can stick his light saber. To anyone that liked "The Phantom Menace" I say,"Turn on your brain."
Anime Guru, I think the very scene you describe in your hilarious rant is a great satirical look at how downright pathetic the situation with "Star Wars" is.
P.S I wouldn't want him to kiss my ass. I don't know where those lips have been. LOL (Airplane was more intelligent than TPM) |
| THX is a scam | Timmy May 6, 2001 11:01 AM | | THX is general is a scam. Read this article and you will understand why.

| George Lucas can kiss my... | Moe Szyslak May 8, 2001 11:13 AM | | I was so happy when the Matrix won all the awards over his movie.
I'll bet he read the riot act to his employees after that! |

| Who cares? | Eyespy Apr 25, 2001 8:00 PM | | I don't, at least. This movie was the pits, IMO. Irritatingly boring, dull, and sleep-inducing. What a waste of an afternoon and money that one was. Some people liked it, though, believe it or not. |
| agree, i used to be an ardent fan till... | gug vancouver Apr 27, 2001 10:32 PM | | PM, he blew it with this film, and his callous disdain for the fans of his work is tired. I can't wait to see what kind of ridiculous price they'll want for this one, I'm sure it's gonna be Collectors Edition, then THX edition, then Special Edition, then Directors Cut blah, blah, blah. Nuff time wasted on this franchise, besides LOTR will kill off the last of the fan base. |
| Who cares? | Amti May 1, 2001 11:20 AM | | Agree with u...........i was keen initially....then thought to hell with him cause when i think back the movie wasnt that great!!! Now Lord of the Rings seems a lot more promising! Lets hope those guys dont blow it!
as an after thought i wonder when the original trilogy will be out on DVD - those movies sure seemed a lot better......... |
| Thanks | Ted N. May 2, 2001 7:43 PM | | Thanks for the good news. I just got my new issue of Widescreen Review magazine today, and I just want to add that this DVD is expected to be a 2-disc Special Edition with supplementary material.
By the way, I saw DVD's (not VCD's) for ALL Star Wars films at a couple auction sites. Check out eBay. |
| YAWN!! | crunchyriff May 3, 2001 12:28 AM | | I'm so sick of Mr.Lucas' marketing schemes, that I probably won't get the DVD. I don't really care about it. There are far better movies out there, IMHO. |
| much ado about Lucas poopoo | Maximum7 May 3, 2001 12:55 PM | | I totally agree with "anime guru". He couldn't have said it better. . What the hell is Lucas thinking? Doesn't he hear and see what people say about him and his little space critters? He has spent too much time in fanasy land. He should go work for Disney. Of course he laughs all the way to the bank. I remember all those people that slept out over nite to get tickets to see it. How sad have we humans become? It's our job to help people wake up and smell the computer generated coffee. Lucas is a genius trapped in jar jar binks' body, in the underwater city, tied to a pod racer, heading toward the dark side! And shave that eighties beard! |
| An Allegory for Generation X | Xavier May 10, 2001 9:17 AM | | Now of course all would agree that Episode one was not of the same caliber as the first trilogy, and that Jar Jar was one of the worst characters that one could ever hope to imagine, Jar Jar should be drawn and quartered and Lucas slapped for using him in the movie, but in comparison to much of the Hollywood junk that is being passed off as quality, Episode One was not that bad. Many people were disillusioned when they saw Episode One; the hype, the expectations and the marketing, which were intended to help the movie, just ended up hurting it. People were expecting another "A New Hope," but surprise, those movies only come along once every decade or so. This movie, especially in comparison to what is out there, was good. Look at the junk that makes money; Broken Arrow? The Mexican? Titanic? Meet the Parents? The list could go on and on of the crap that makes millions. How in the hell did the Titanic become the largest grossing movie of all time? Now that's sad. There are still good movies out there, but not every movie can be a Godfather, a Citizen Cain, a Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, a Brave heart, a Casablanca or a Star Wars, but in comparison to what's normally coming out, Episode One was of far greater quality then 98% of the trash that is passed off as film. Look past the hype, look past the expectations, and just try and see the film. |
| An Allegory for Generation X | easygoen May 11, 2001 12:41 AM | | Well I admit I was one of those people who camped out all night. Duh! I also agree with Xavier. It was'nt the best movie of the year but better than most. One point is I really belive that TPM was made for the younger generation. (Another merchandising tactic? For us to buy our kids what they want?) Well when I was 13 and saw ANH I went nuts. I wanted all the toys. But I guess now that I'm older it was fun to relive a little bit of that Star Wars mania. And so far as wholsome entertainment it was. Just look at what our kids are watching now! WWF Smackdown! Well any wrestling show. Pokemon! Dragonballz! I could go on and on. See thats nothing but garbage. Also remember this was Lucas's first directing film in I think it was 15 years. He's rusty;) But I will also say I DO not agree with his marketing tactics. I will probably get it though. |
| An Allegory for Generation X | Robert-The-Rambler May 11, 2001 8:24 AM | | I always find it hilarious when someone asks you not to be biased when you form your opinion about "The Phantom Menace" and then quickly displays the fact that they are totally biased themself.(Look at what you said) Why do people keep diluding themselves by saying that TPM is alright compared to other classic movies, or it is ok compared to true crap. It couldn't have been as good as whatever "classic" movie and it sure was better than those other crappy films. Then what are you saying? Do not be biased here. I won't get into a long winded rant here but TPM was crap by any standard no matter how good another movie was or how bad another movie was. You said it yourself. See the film for what it is. |
