Apr 30, 2001 2:52 PM | | Personally I though it had a good plot because it put a new and never seen before twist on a theme that had been used already... and I thought the action sequences were among the most intense I've ever seen in an action movie... next to Die Hard. But to each his own so you are entitled to your opinion.
Something I'd like to point out though... regarding the special effects..... You have to consider that that this film came out a few years ago and at the time the special effects were ground breaking, pioneering, and totally new and unique. Since then, everyone and their mother has copied this style... in tv commercials, other movies, music videos etc etc....... So you are bombarded with these "Matrix style" images and it becomes less of a big deal since you see it all the time... but remember, all those people copied off the Matrix. That might explain why you think the effects are overrated. It's like if you saw the original Star Wars movie for the first time today.... you'd think the special effects were rather cheezy compared to what they can do today with computer generated graphics... yet Star Wars was heralded as one of the greatest special effects achievements of all time... (for it's time) |

All the wanna-be h@x0rs and script kiddies absolutely worship the movie. If you ain't into that, it's just a movie. A good kungfu flick with an American twist. But for computer geeks, it's a calling from GOD.

This time I enjoyed it and have seen it several times since and my appreciation grows. If you're up to it, I'd give it another shot some day... |

I side with those who liked it, I probably think better of it now than in '98. The only bad thing about it is that the copied the 'matrix' effect for sports games...looks like crapola when they do that. |

If we take the story seriously, then, of course, the bodies of the people would be so atrophied from not moving their whole lives that they could not walk when 'revived'. You have to ignore reality when watching the film, or it is just irritating. And the nonsense about dying from one's computer image dying was obviously just a plot device to add suspense. When have you ever died from your character dying in a computer game? What nonsense. The special effects were interesting, but special effects, in my opinion, are no substitute for an intelligent story. |

Keanu Reeves is not one of my favorites....
I think this movie probably appeals more to self-proclaimed 'intellectuals' than anyone else. |
