| Home Theater magazine said this movie was "really dumb"..... | waVeman May 1, 2001 11:58 AM | | Has anyone seen "Contact" on DVD? On VHS the Dolby Surround sound track is quite good (& so are the visuals) with a lot of rear effects. Is the 5.1 version at least as good? As far as the story itself is concerned, if you are a staunch 1) supporter of Creationism, or 2) supporter of evolution, it would be worth it to see this movie. It deals with those Big Questions in an equal and non-preachy manner, so it wasn't as popular as an "ID4" type movie. And sorry, no sex or gratuitous violence here either. And I think the worst words said in it were "sh*t" and "son of a b*tch". Whether the story was "dumb" or not, I thought it was a well done movie that did not rely on special effects or bare butt cheeks to carry it. Peace out. |

I like this movie a lot, and I think the comparisons to Close Encounters (another all-time favorite) are right on the money. The opening sequence alone made it worth the price of admission, and the wormhole scene makes it a must-buy for anyone with a subwoofer. In my opinion. |

I liked this movie, but thought that Matthew McConaughey as a religious scholar was a little unbelievable. |
