| THE MUMMY RETURNS was it a good flick ? | Abird123 May 5, 2001 6:45 PM | | Yes this movie kicks ass with verry good sound and awesome picture quality.
It is filled with great bass effects and cool effects.
Go see this in the theaters but before you go see it watch Part 1 of the mummy. |
| re: THE MUMMY RETURNS was it a good flick ? | daler May 5, 2001 9:04 PM | | Low turnout at the theatre we went to today - altho there is 12 showings daily and playing at 2 different theatres. This movie was incredibly loud for these 45 year old ears, and altho my wife was very excited about going, she hardly said anything about it afterwards. Great effects but the usual "couldn't hit a barn at 50 feet" missed gunfire. Glad to see the Rock used in a small role, actually, and enjoyed the "son" - he seemed the most believeable! |
| I didn't enjoy The Mummy until 2nd time... | puffum May 5, 2001 10:46 PM | | I watched it on DVD and then went and bought Ultimate Edition and liked it more, so, I think I will wait until this one comes out on DVD....SORRY, I just more enjoy watching movies at home than the theater (esp @ $8 a pop) - but I was tempted....Looking forward to it's video release! |
| Uhhh...HELLO | Max May 10, 2001 11:24 AM | | If you bought the Ultimate edition, you may notice that it comes with a FREE movie ticket to go see The Mummy Returns. You can't beat free, so you might as well go and check it out. If you decide not to, just send me the free ticket...ha ha. |
| Sorry, sent them to my daughter... | puffum May 10, 2001 4:04 PM | | was going opening night but didn't want to fight the crowds and spend $15 at concession. So, stuck 'em in the mail Saturday! BTW - saw Ultimate edition elsewhere anywhere from $35-$45 (guess they thought free ticket was worth it) - Sam's Wholesale Club - $20.99 |
| Ohh, well | Max May 11, 2001 7:41 AM | | Yeah, I got mine from Best Buy the first week it was released for $16.99 (the go up after the first week) and a free movie ticket goes for about $7, so to me the DVD only cost $10, what a bargain...and in DTS, DD, widescreen and standard! You can't beat that. |
| re: THE MUMMY RETURNS was it a good flick ? | GuitHack May 6, 2001 5:28 AM | | I agree... excellent special effects work. Some of the most breathtaking shots were computer generated, but they were still great to watch, and realistic.
The movie is not rich in plot or dialogue. It is simply a visual and audio feast, presented at breakneck speed. If you go with that expectation, it's alot of fun.
I look forward to hearing my sub-woofer when this hits DVD! |
| I haven't seen such a stupid movie since... | Brotherman-5th floor May 6, 2001 7:22 AM | | ...actually this is the #1 stupidest movie of all times. I's beyond insulting, I actually fell asleep despite the loud db level. |
| I haven't seen such a stupid movie since... | Daigoro May 6, 2001 10:13 AM | | My friends dragged me to go see this movie last night. Thankfully, all showings were sold out by the time we got there. There is a God! :-) |
| I haven't seen such a stupid movie since... | Brotherman-5th floor May 6, 2001 12:56 PM | | Same thing happened to me but unfortunately it wasn't sold out. I mean some nice effects and all but the acting, cliches, one-liners e.t.c. were so bad I can't believe I spent $8 on this. |
| I enjoyed it, except for certain people in the audience | Jack in Wilmington May 6, 2001 6:20 PM | | We went to the late afternoon showing on Sat. It was a good idea, until sometime during the coming attractions a family of 8 came in and tried to squeeze into the 4 seats left in our row. After about 10 minutes they figured who was staying and who was sitting somewhere else. Then we finally sat down and got to see a special effects extravaganza. Nice little bits of comic relief thrown in, especially by the kid. The audience gave a nice round of applause at the end, and that doesn't happen to often. As I was leaving the theatre, I also said, can't wait for this to come out on DVD. |
| re: THE MUMMY RETURNS was it a good flick ? | EdwinGene May 6, 2001 7:42 PM | | I liked it better than the first movie. After the first half-hour it's fun, non-stop action right up to the end. It isn't the best action movie ever made, so don't go with those expectations, just enjoy it like amusement park ride that it is. |
| Eye Candy | Anime Guru May 7, 2001 8:25 AM | | I agree with many of the posters here... The Mummy Returns was a great visual effects feast, pure eye candy. And the audio was good. Unfortunately, they tried to mask the movie from what it really was, an excuse to show tons of violence, gun fights, special effects, massive army attacks, etc etc etc. If you watch it, don't expect Brazil or anything even close to it. It's like saying that people went to see Showgirls or Die Hard (or countless other movies) for the plot and story line. Enjoy movies for what they are, some are meant to make you think, and some are merely there to thrill you. |
| Man, "showgirls" had a plot! | Umrswimr May 7, 2001 10:16 AM | | Plot: How much nakedness can you put into a movie without labelling it a porno? Let's find out!
As for "The Mummy"- it was entertaining, but I ain't buying it or going to see the sequal in the theater. Actually, there are only a few movies I plan on seeing:
"Driven" and "The Fast and the Furious" because I've kinda developed an attraction to autocross races and driving fast. Can't wait to race my new toy.
"Pearl Harbor" because I'm a WWII fanatic and especially the Pacific Campaign. Didn't make "Enemy at the Gates" so I'll have to wait until DVD.
Of course, all the movies I've listed are for entertainment purposes only- I don't expect to be engaging in philosophical discussions over the advantages of supercharging a Honda Civic and racing for pink slips. I just wanna see 'em haul arse! |
| you call THAT a plot? | jesse May 7, 2001 8:33 PM | | i'd hate to see you at a movie with a plot if you consider THAT a plot, you'd be blown away. (enemy at the gates is not like driven or pearl harbor will be. it is slow and it is a personal drama. to wit: it was made by a french director who actually makes good films. so i wouldn't be TOO excited when it arrives on dvd if driven and pearl harbor are the films that get you off.) anyway, haven't see the mumy returns, i was unfortunate enough to see the first one. and as a reply to another person's post re: armageddon which is below this one somewhere: armageddon is the quintessential hollywood 1990s film. it doesn't get any better (or worse) than that. there has been nothing more hollywood in all of the 1990s. i'll post outside something about this as i think a lot of people might want to chime in and i don't want to take up space w/the mummy returns. |
| re: THE MUMMY RETURNS was it a good flick ? | gle_helle May 7, 2001 1:23 PM | | I thought it was o.k. I knew what I was getting when I went in, and it never takes itself seriously. On the other hand, I watched part of Armageddon again on tv the other night; what an enormous piece of crap. |
| Very attractive leading lady...and that's all nt | Snakebit May 7, 2001 9:10 PM | | :( |
| Saw Mummy Returns and Memento in the same weekend | Tyson May 8, 2001 11:37 AM | | Talk about 2 movies about as different as possible - but you know what? I enjoyed both of them. Time to go home now & finish watching Buffalo 66. |
