I won't get into the whole "is this a good movie" debate. Personally, I like it, you may not.

What I can tell you is that the sound on this DVD ROCKS!!! Aggressive bass, tres cool panning and sound effect placement. Sound effects barrage you from all angles panning left center right, left front to left back, right front to left back and vice versa. Sounds zip around the room in a cacaphony of intense and effective noise and then quiet down to crystal clear whispers. The dynamic range is astounding. This is beyond reference quality. This sets a new standard as far as I am concerned.

When I demo my system for someone, I am using the hospital room scene when young Matt wakes. Unbelievably good.

I am referring to the DTS track (I assume the 5.1 track is equally good).

If anyone is interested in the extras and things, let me know, I have given it a pretty thorough once over but I had to comment on the sound!

I'm glad to get your assessment of it's sonic qualities on DVD. I will admit that the film got better for me with a second viewing but I have to really "love" a movie to buy it. While I love the Frank Miller inspired Daredevil I'm not sure I could own a Ben Affleck film. Just kidding. What are the extra's like by the by? I thought the extras on Spiderman were simply some of the best I'd ever seen. The inclusion of comic book covers and character milestones was impressive.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Worf,

The extras look a lot like they did for Spiderman in that there is the comic side and the movie side. On the comic side, I watched the "creators" interviews - about an hour long - featuring STan Lee John Romita SR and Jr, Miller, Kevin Smith and a couple of other guys. I am a comic fan and I found this very entertaining. I am sure there is also the whole comic stills and covers and all that jazz but I didn't look at it- only so many hours in the day!

On the movie side, there is a really good making of - and also an HBO behind the scenes type thing - documentary which describes why they did certain things the way they did. Lots of budgetary constraints and how they got around things that cost too much. I found it very interesting and restores my faith in the Directors ability to make a good film, with the right budget (He worked with 50-75 million less than Raimey had for Spiderman which is a significant amount of cash) You alsoi get Jennifer Garners screen test and many other extras.

There was also a very intersting segment on the blind consultant for the film.

Personally, I liked this better on DVD than I did in the cinema, it played better on a smaller screen (unlike Spiderman where you wanted to see all the intricate details) The flaws (some pretty poor cgi) were far less bothersome on the small screen and the sound blows - and I mean no comparison at all - Spiderman away.

At the very least good for a rental. And the sound will impress your friends and make you happy you spent all that money on a home theater system!

Try Final Destination 2. They make awesome use of the surround channels and lots of deep bass. It's also a rare DTS-ES dvd. I'm going to be using the huge car pile up in the beginning as my demo when showing off in front of my friends. I only used the DTS-ES version, it's probably a little better then DD EX. Oh before you watch this movie, make sure you see the first one first. You'll have to see the movie, I'm not gonna bother saying it was good or not.

I liked the first Final Destination - assuming it is the movie where death comes to claim the victims he missed.

A good car pile up in DTS? Count me in! Thanks for the heads up on that. I would have given this movie a miss but I will generally rent anything with a DTS soundtrack. It is definitely a selling feature for me. Sort of an elitist thing : >
