| one thumbs up one thumbs down | trailrguy Jul 21, 2003 7:41 PM | | Pirates of the Carribbean - thumbs up - surprisingly entertaining - johnny depp is a pirates pirate
but even the 13 year old nieces thought Legally Blonde 2 was moronic and stewpit - dont waste ur $$ on that embarrassing flick - big thumbs down |
| Just Saw Pirates of the Carribean... | Worf101 Jul 21, 2003 8:32 PM | | Liked it, one massive fight scene to long but it was fun. Depp is simply the best American Actor working today. Never does the same character twice, takes roles noone else will tackle. Has one impressive body of work and all this from a kid from "21 Jumpstreet". Geoffry Rush gave him a run for his money though and all the characters were quite fun to watch. Hated the easter egg at the end though.
Enjoyable fair, worth seeing now and buying when it's out on DVD.

| Johhny Depp is one of my favorite actor too. | Smokey Jul 21, 2003 11:03 PM | | If you haven't seen him in the movie Ed Wood, you definitely missing one of his greatest work.

| Pirates Rocked | yamdsp-a1 Jul 22, 2003 6:19 AM | | What a great flick! Thoroughly enjoyed watching J Depp do Keith Richards doing a pirate! It was amazing! Great story, great effects, pretty girl and some good laughs. What more do you want from a summer movie?
Personally I think this is tied with Finding Nemo for the best film thus far this year. Hmmm, maybe I should buy some Disney stock...

PS, if you like Kiera Knightley, check out the premier photos from Yahoo.com/movies. Now that girl can stuff herself into a pair of jeans! |

| Pirates of the Obvious | Troy Jul 22, 2003 8:04 AM | | Everybody says he was doing Keif, but aside from the eye shadow on his lower lid, I didn't. What I DID see was him doing Dudley Moore in "Aurthur", swaying and slurring and acting all cute. I also saw a lot of his Hunter Thompson character in this guy too. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Depp. He was really great as Thompson, Ed Wood and Don Juan, but I don't really think he was that great in this.
Man, I thought the movie was pretty boring and obvious. Predictable, typical summer slop. Why was the sky never blue? At least I was able to enjoy the AC on a 100 degree afternoon.
My wife and I laughed more over dinner afterward, riffing on the next Disney ride to get the movie treatment. "Monasnto's Ride Thru Inner Space, The Movie" or "Carousel of Progress" starring Ben Affleck and J Lo. How about "It's a Small World, the Musical" starring Keannu Reeves and Britney Spears? |
| Troy, you could suck the fun out a wet dream..... | Worf101 Jul 23, 2003 7:10 AM | | but seriously, Pirates was a good popcorn muncher. And while that young woman might need to eat a meal every now and then the is FINE!!!!! I'm enjoying your bood emmensely and can't wait to have it autographed. Only you would get me to buy a book through Amazon.com.

| Yes, I am the wet blanket . . . | Troy Jul 23, 2003 9:21 AM | | . . . thrown on your campfire.
Please, no references to wet blankets and wet dreams either . . .
Pirates was fine for what it is, I suppose. I was hoping for more cleverness. Better banter. Funny catch phrases. Lucious bright blue carribean skies. It would have been better with those things.
Glad you're enjoying my bood (I guess that that's the Klingon spelling for book?) I'll be happy to carve my initials in it. Let me know when you're in the SF area.

| Pirates of the Obvious | Bryan Jul 23, 2003 8:41 AM | | If that last suggestion ever makes it onto the big screen then we can write off Disney forever. |
| I'm banning Johnny Depp anyway | Daigoro Jul 27, 2003 8:53 PM | | I think Depp is one of the better actors out there, but after he moved his family to France because he just couldn't stand to be around us big dumb Americans any more, I will no longer be seeing his movies.
I give a wide berth for people to have dissenting opinions, but these Hollywood pukes who think they are so superior make me sick. At least Michael Moore has the guts to stay here after making an ass out of himself. |
