| Tomb Raider: Cradle of Crap... | tugmcmartin Jul 28, 2003 9:00 AM | | Went with the wife to see this on saturday night. We were planning on seeing Bruce Almighty, which was playing at the same time, not expecting any Tomb Raider tix to be available five minutes before the start. But low and behold, there were, so we opted for it instead. I wish we hadn't.
The entire movie felt like i was watching a video game. I know the movie's based on one, but that doesn't mean it has to have the lame story and dialogue of one. The only redeeming thing about this movie was getting to see Jolie in tight body suits. The story was absolutely lame. Why does there have to be a love interest in every action film? Why can't the hero's just go about their merry lives without the extra crap associated with having to accomodate a psuedo love story? The villain (i didn't stick around for the credits to get the guys name) was pretty pathetic too. Mad scientist? How novel an idea! And the Chinese gang involved in the theft? Another novel idea! Perhaps the worst thing about the movie was the special effects were worse, which is maybe why i felt like i was watching a video game. You'd expect more from a big budget hollywood summer blockbuster. I don't know, maybe with some of the amazing work thats been lately in special effects, i've become spoiled or something. But the sets and the explosions and falling debris (especially in the underwater scene) looked like something out of a theme park ride. The entire movie, from start to finish, offered nothing new to the action hero genre and was a complete bore. I left this movie after two hours wondering why i'd spent 17 bucks on this stuff. And this, my friends is why i rarely go to the theaters anymore. Overpriced hype that rarely lives up to your expectations.
Cheers,

| the "Crap" movie title genre... hehe | Kam Jul 28, 2003 9:34 AM | | I figured it would be a jolie visual feast and nothing else, thanks for the warning! Too bad they didn't name it that, that's a good one.
Like to add:
T3: Rise of the Crap
The League of Extraordinary Crap
Charlies Angels 2: Full Crap (ok this one i haven't seen so shouldn't condemn i know, but one of my trusted sources has condemned it so not gonna waste my money on it)
peace

| And you can add to that list.... | tugmcmartin Jul 31, 2003 7:18 AM | | The Crap Chick. Just saw that last night. What an abysmal movie. I half-chuckled maybe twice during the entire thing. I wasn't expecting much and it didn't even meet my minimum expectations. I liked Rob Schnieder's "Deuce Bigalow", but the Hot Chick was just plain awful.... |
