| "Naked Lunch" coming to DVD | JazzHead Sep 3, 2003 9:23 AM | | Finally! And from Criterion, no less! Date is Nov. 11.
Combination of William S. Burroughs and David Cronenberg is catnip for me. So many great scenes - Paul Bowles/Tom Frost (Ian Holm) speaking, with his lips gradually getting away from the words coming out of them! A typewriter turns into a talking cockroach! Julien Sands turns into God-knows-what! Mugwumps! Roy Scheider as Dr. Benway, in the flesh! The man who taught his a*****e to talk! ... man, where do I stop?
Cronenberg/Weller commentary, stills, trailers, TV spots, and audio excerpts of Burroughs reading from the novel (three-CD set from Warners worth seeking out if you are a WSB acolyte). 5.1 sound, too, the better to hear the bugs and the Howard Shore/Ornette Coleman score.
peace,
