| Recent Rental Reviews!! | Kam Oct 14, 2003 6:28 PM | | The Italian Job - alright, well i sat back and shut up and enjoyed this one. a good action, crime movie. charlize theron looks great in it as usual and the whole cast is great. ed norton continues to take different roles and nails them everytime. he's great as the jackoff turncoat and you really just wanna punch him as much as everyone else does. he really embraces each character he plays and just nails them. AND... not a single discrepancy or nuance stuck out at me, no inconsistencies or odd logic... i think i might be turning a new leaf here!
Jeepers Creepers - ok, so this one isn't quite "recent" but finally saw it. Again, enjoyable horror movie for the first half. i think they reveal far too much of the creature though, it was creepier earlier on when you couldn't see it and didn't quite know what it was. Then when they started revealing more and more of it, got less and less scary. Starts off great and has some creepy moments to it, but ends more like an action movie then a horror movie. Although does have the prototypical horror movie ending which leads right into the sequel i guess (haven't seen that yet). If they stuck to keeping the creature in shadows and that cool trench and cowboy hat, it woulda been great, never really knowing what the hell it was, and just seieng it dissapear or fly off screen even, but it got a little cheesy when you saw the creature. Definitely shows in this time, having been exposed to sooo much, the only thing that will freak you out is NOT seeing what is freaking you out. The second you see it, the mystique is gone.
Signs - ok this isn't anywhere near being recent, but finally saw it too. This has pretty much gone through the discussion forum a couple times so won't kill it too much, just will say if you haven't seen it, rent it/buy it! IMO, he is 3 for 3 with Signs, Unbreakable and 6th Sense. M. Knight is really separating himself from the pack. He continues to really tell great stories and just blow everyone else away. He is pushing the envelope in 'intelligent storytelling'. I hope his movies have bigger and bigger boxoffice numbers just so hollywood will give more creators like him a chance rather then continue to promote from the Bruckheimer/Bay school of music videos (ala tex chainsaw remake with another music video director). Can't wait to see his next film, The Village. Another good idea with a great cast and the kid connectiong that am sure he will execute on big time.
Adaptation up next!
peace
