| To DVD with DTS built in or not !!!! | Nobita Mar 23, 2001 1:30 PM | | I'm between of buying a DVD player with built in DTS ... I have a receiver with just DD built in now. I dont know if I just go ahead and buy a good DVD player without DD adn DTS decoder and upgrade the receiver later ... I dont really know what to do now. to buy a DVD player with dts built in in much cheaper than upgrade to a better dts receiver. Does any of you know there many decent VDV player out there to buy ? and where please.
Thanks alots in advance |

| re: To DVD with DTS built in or not !!!! | Square eyes Mar 23, 2001 3:03 PM | | Hi Nobita,
I was in the same situation as you. I had a fairly expensive amplifier, but it only had dolby digital (DD). I decided, after a lot of humming and harring, to go with the DVD player with the built-in DTS decoder. For me, this turned out to be a very good choice.
The DVD player I chose was, at the time, the brand new Toshiba SD-900EE (SD-9200 in the US). Althought it cost about 2-3 times as much as a standard DVD player, it did have all the features that I wanted, including, DTS, DD, MPEG, as well as DVD-Audio decoders built-in. Also, for me to upgrade to the latest version of my amplifier, I was going to have to fork out $7,000.
So, as you can see, if you have a good quality amplifer, it is often a lot cheaper to spend a bit more money on a DVD player with built-in decoders, then it is to buy a cheaper DVD player and a new amplifier.
By the way, most companies have DVD players in there ranges that have built-in decoders. Just be careful when choosing, because a lot of DVD players only have DD decoders built-in and output DTS. Make sure you read the manual, or a least ask someone who knows.
Hope this helps. |

I bought the Technics , for DVD Audio, and hooked it up to my current Dennon AVR 3200 which only has Dolby digital. The DTS sounds great. |
| re: To DVD with DTS built in or not !!!! | JIMBO Mar 24, 2001 12:15 AM | | I just got my Panasonic DVD RV80 and it has both DTS & DD decoders built in - if you can find one, buy it! Paid $290 after rebate which is good until March 31st. If you can't find one, wait until the RP61 from Panasonic comes out - should be soon - don't know the cost but it is supposed to be the replacement. |
| re: To DVD with DTS built in or not !!!! | goodsign Mar 25, 2001 8:45 AM | | I have the yamaha 2070 receiver. It is my understanding that unless my receiver has inputs for 5 channels, getting a dvd player with dts built in does me no good. The yamaha has 7 speaker outputs but I still have a non digital output to my speakers. |
| Technics DVD-A10N is a steal at 365 right now. | azri Mar 25, 2001 1:44 PM | | The price is at etronics.com but I'll go to J&R and asked them to beat the price. They'll sure beat the price. At that price you get DD, DTS and DVD-A decoder.
You need 5.1 input in your reciever though. |
