Denon 4800 Fan?Kent
Mar 24, 2001 7:47 AM
I have had my 4800 for about 9 months. Has and still works perfectly. I recently rearranged my room. I noticed it is getting quiet warm. I have never heard the fan cut on. Recently, I noticed a sound that may be the fan, but it stays on for about 5 seconds, then about 15 minutes later, it will do the same thing. Then it may not do this for an extended period of time or at all. I do not push the receiver. This sound does not happen all the time.

Should the fan be cutting on very often? Should I be hearing the fan cut on? What might the sound be if it is not the fan? The receiver is in a cabinet that is open in the rear and has about 3-4 inch clearance on top.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Hi Kent
There is nothing wrong with your Denon fan .
It's an auto-switch fan that turns on only after sustained , very
High power runs .
I know My Onkyo does the same I assume Denon uses the same
method .

hey kent, i own a 4800 also for the past three months. i have yet to here any fan noise. i've had this thing cranked and it just gets warm. i have also seen the rear fan on while crankin' it, but it turned so slow that it was almost like it was just turned off and ready to stop, probably like 30 rpm's. i do however feel it should not be kept in a rack, but if it is, it should be on the top(out side the rack) with more than 6 inches of head room. over all i just wouldn't put it in the rack. i built a shelving unit for my components that has them side by side and about 2'6" from the ground and about 1' headroom. this thing is a beast so keeping it cool will keep it happy.
