Mar 25, 2001 12:54 AM | | hi i own a Dolby Digital receiver and i don't own a dvd player yet so i dont know what dolby digital is like i'm only able to watch my movies on dolby pro logic and the imaging is not quite good if you unplug the center speaker you can still hear dialog on the front L/R speakers would you get the same effect on dolby digital ?
and can any one tell me what the differnce is between dolby digital and pro-logic . thanks |

Mar 25, 2001 5:59 AM | | I'll try to explain the way I see it (I'm in no way any type of expert). The difference is that the siganl is sent in a digital format with true 6 channel seperation. The 5 is for the Front Left, Centre, Front Right, Surround Rear and Surround Left (left & right rears). The .1 is for the subwoofer out which is not amplified so that's where the .1 comes into play. The sub needs its' own power as in a powered sub. A DVD player with this decoder, or an A/V receiver with this decoder will decipher the signal from the DVD player if a digital cable is used (coax or optical). Make sense now? |

As well, Dolby ProLogic can be digital. DD5.1 is six discrete channels while DD2.0 is two discrete channels which can be matrixed with two other channels (center and rear) to give 4 channel ProLogic. |
