I understand that in order to fully appreciate 5.1 dvd audio, one must connect their dvd-a player to their 5.1 receiver via the analog connections that require six separate cables as opposed to using just one cable (coaxial or optical). The reason for this is that the music industry is concerned that their music will be somehow copied. Will future machines allow for a one cable hook-up as my receiver does not have the 5.1 analog inputs and I am suspect about buying a dvd-a machine only to be limited as to the benefits of dvd-a. What were they thinking when they decided to make analog inputs as the standard when many people like me do not have those required inputs on their receivers. Thanks for your response...

Whenever a new technical advance comes on the scene, the people that have become used to the way things are done now become paranoid about the chance that somehow this new technology will operate to their disadvantage. Of course it doesn't; it never has. But fear does strange things to people in power.

The RIAA and its members would probably like to see DVD-Audio go away quietly and never come back. Since that horse is out of the barn, they are doing the next best thing; trying to make it as inconvenient and expensive as possible.

If you think there's is a wan hope, remember DAT and MD, both of which were successfully relegated to the enthusiast's corner from which they have never quite been able to escape. DVD-Audio and SACD may very well meet the same fate. It's too early to tell.

Thanks Norm for your response....Your probably right in your view but I really think DVD-A is going to make it....they have to much backing. I will probably wait to see for sure before I do anything as far as upgrades go. Thanks again for your in depth reply...

What set me to thinking about this is the inordinate amount of time that elapsed between the concept and the release to the public. A lot of this time was wasted trying to perfect a rock solid digital copy protection scheme. Then we had to worry about analog copying, so there was another delay while waiting for Verance, et al, to come up with something. All of these delays would have been unacceptable if the RIAA really thought this was going to be a knock 'em out product.

They haven't shown any eagerness to get DVD-Audio to market. When that happens it's because they don't think they're losing any money by delay.
