| DVDO iScan Pro V3 vs. Toshiba 6200, Pioneer DV-37, Denon2800 | Platinum Mar 25, 2001 2:50 PM | | Hi,
I currently own a Pioneer Elite DV-05 DVD player and am looking at replacing it with another unit. I have been considering the Elite DV-37, and the Toshiba 6200. Both have progressive, 3:2 pulldown, etc. I'm also curious about the Denon 2800 since it uses the DVDO iScan chipset as its de-interlacer. However, I've seen lots of bad reviews on the first few units due to manufacturing/design flaw. Does anyone know if this problem has been corrected yet?
To make my life even more complicated, I'm also considering the DVDO iScan Pro V3 which takes component inputs. Has anyone compared this to the V2 - any notable improvements??
So, here is how I'm looking at this:
Do I buy a DVDO iScan line doubler so I don't dump my current DVD?
If so, the V2 or the V3 (V2 is moderately cheaper)
If not, which DVD player?
Pioneer Elite DV-37?
Toshiba 6200??
Denon 2800??
Thanks in advance for any opinions or comments about anything I've mentioned here; I really appreciate it!

You may be please to know that Denon has already acknowledged the flaw in some of the units in the first shipment of DVD2800's. (visit hometheaterspot.com for latest info) Already reviewers who have received fixed units place it has the best progressive scan player under $2500.00. On hometheaterspot.com, there is a post that describes how folks who have a defective unit can get it fixed with a quick turnaround (1-day) by Denon. Alternatively, they can return the units for an exchange at their dealer. Fresh new 2800's that are guaranteed to be de-bugged are expected to hit dealers the first week of April.
I would highly recommend auditioning the Denon 2800, but I suggest you wait at least a week to ensure you get a newly produced one.
The DVDO Iscan Pro would give you a great picture as well, but keep in mind that quality can vary depending on what DVd player you match up with it. For example, the Iscan Pro is noted to give softening of the picture. If your current player delivers a very soft picture as it is, the Iscan Pro may give a picture that is too soft. In addition, you will lose a very little amount of resolution on DVD's due to the extra d/a and a/d steps created by the IScan. However, the trade-off is that you can still get a great picture with it, but also use it for TV/VCR, etc.
Hope this helps...
