| NO - It won't. | iman draw Mar 26, 2001 6:41 AM | | If you view alot of broadcast material you will soon grow tired of it. You have 2 choices.
ONE: You can watch your broadcast material in a stretched out POOR looking picture.
TWO: You can view such material in the 4:3 mode, but Mitsu recommends just a few hours a week in the 4:3 mode to avoid burning in of the bars on the side.
IMO unless you are planning to watch mostly DVD on that set, I would avoid the 16:9 set at this time. I would rather view a good 4:3 set. In my store we have a calibrated WS55805 running off of a Dish network HD reciever, and it looks hideous on anything other than HD and Anamorphic DVD. |
| YES - it will | GCM Mar 26, 2001 7:09 AM | | I've had my WS-73903 for over a year now with no sign of any kind of uneven picture tube wear. The picture with analog cable is pretty good and the picture with a regular DVD player, especially anamorphic DVDs, is incredible.
Actually Mitsubishi recommends not leaving fixed images on your screen for more than 15% of the viewing time to avoid uneven picture tube wear. Since they display gray bars on the sides, all three tubes are being used evenly for displaying the bars on 4:3 images, and "burn in" isn't likely. |
| YES - it will | iman draw Mar 27, 2001 8:05 AM | | if you dont mind looking at a mediocre picture with gray bars - go for it. Please do not ill advise people about what mits recommends. If you use the gray bars you will have burn in after time. |
| You are ill-informed my friend | GCM Mar 27, 2001 8:33 AM | | As an owner and someone with the owners' manual in front of him right now, I can most assuredly tell you that Mitsubishi doesn't say anything about limiting gray bar viewing to several hours a week. They also don't say anything about burn-in. What they do say is that leaving the same "stationary" image on your screen should be limited to about 15% of your total viewing time to avoid uneven picture tube wear. This is not the same as burn-in. The reason the bars are gray is they're using all three tubes to display them, which causes the tubes to wear evenly, so gray bars really aren't a problem. Our resident TV expert Woodman has confirmed this. With over a year of use under its belt, I have experienced no ill effects with my set.
I also wouldn't describe the picture as "mediocre". It is quite exceptional in my experience.
So it is you apparently, that is ill-advising people. A quick check of your Mitsubishi manual should confirm this. |
