| Good idea, but why buy online? | iman draw Mar 26, 2001 6:29 AM | | Does it make you happy to take money out of the local economy? |

It is an older unit that was $900 and can now be bought for about $400. It is a good unit and will probably be just as good as any high end unit out today. |

It is one of the top-rated under $500 models on many lists. I checked the reviews at c/net.com, the reviews here, everything I could get my hands on. Slim, attractive design, DTS and digital decoder built in (which you don't need), and a $50 rebate from Sony until the end of the month. I also tried to price match at Sears with Internet prices, but they said they are no longer matching. Oh well, didn't buy it from stupid Sears then... Anyway, I think that this player is a good choice for your price range (same as mine). As far as the CD's go, it will play CD-R's but not CD-RW's. Good hunting! Jackson |

| re: Buying A Single Disc DVD Player Need Some Advice Please!!!!! | Keith from Canada Mar 26, 2001 1:27 PM | | Your best bet (IMO) would be to pick-up one of the intro units from Panasonic, Toshiba or Pioneer. All three offer great reliability and the quality of the picture and audio will be the same as a player costing several hundred more. I would however recommend getting a separate CD player. Fact is, unless you spend considerably more than your willing to spend, a CD player will sound better than a DVD player and, running the DVD player on 'double-duty' will limit the players life expectancy. |
| How so? | paulbl Mar 27, 2001 1:34 PM | | How does running a single disk DVD player as a 'double duty' player (CD and DVD) shorten its life expectancy?
Just curious! |
