| Already Need new Center!!! | Brian34 Mar 25, 2001 7:19 PM | | Hello everyone. I have a BIG problem. I just bought a pair of JBL ND310 main speakers and a JBL S-center, The mains are excellent no problem at all with them. The center on the other hand sucks!! It is way to bright w/ my yammie Rxv595a, I hook up my cheap center and it doesnt sound as bright.. Anyway I know you should keep the speakers matched but I just paid $700.00 for these speakers over the net and I cannot return them, So I figured I would sell the center on Ebay and keep the main's. I dont have a local Hi-fi store around that I can audition speakers at so I would like to know some recomendation's for a good center to go w/ my yammie.. Thanks alot for any info

If the center is not at the same level as your mains (+- 10 inches or so), the sound will be different. Try using a paperback book or cassette tape (remember those?) case to elevate the back of the center to point the center directly at you. Or elevate the front of the speaker. Either way, make sure the center is pointing directly at you, not above or below. Sometimes a little placement expermentation can make a big difference in sound. |

If you do, then you might have a beef with the speaker company and you might want to send them an e-mail directly. |
| re: Give it a little time. | Ms. Nomer Mar 26, 2001 11:05 AM | | The sound will get smoother as it breaks in. Does your receiver have some form of "re-EQ" or center channel tone controls? Also, if possible, try placing it below the TV. This worked better in my set-up because the early reflections get attenuated by the back of the sofa and carpet, instead of bouncing off of the back wall and ceiling. Aiming the speaker down made things worse in my case. Bottom line is now I hear more of the speaker and less of the room. Even if you can't move the speaker, I would live with it for a few weeks and see if your perception changes. If not, return it then. |
