DVD with decoder or separate decoder?wik
Mar 26, 2001 5:42 AM
I have a Yamaha RXV496 receiver that is digital ready and I am buying a DVD player. Is it better to buy a DVD player with Digital decoding built in or should I but a separate decoder? Are there any advantages either way? Thanks for any help.

Better off with built inn or buying a new reciever. DVD players to look at would be the Panasonic or Sony. Both have $50.00 rebates.
Hmm, that's funny...Chuckster

the 496 already has decoders....all you need is a DVD player with an optical digital out.

Yeah, NOW a DVD player with the DD & DTS decoder isn't a bad idea since they're so cheap now. Panasonic's new 2001 DVD-RP61 will have DD and DTS decoder (not to mention progressive scan, DVD audio, and a 54MHz video DAC. Even if your TV cannot support progressive, it's still the player for you). I think etronics is selling the RP61 for a mere $240 once it ships.
Thanks...I'll check it out.(nt)wik
