| VCD recorder or DVD recorder...options...price...which one? | franko May 15, 2001 1:13 PM | | Hello all
Right now I have a small dilemma. I own a Sony DV video camera (first of all to anyone who is considering a video camcorder of some kind STAY AWAY FROM SONY DV OR DIGITAL 8MM they are expensive, breakdown a lot and sony will abandon them soon)
Well anyway I have about 8 DV tapes and I am trying to find a alternative way to store the video. For two reasons the mini DV tapes cost $24 each! And if the video camera breaks down again there is no way to see the videos (and I will not cough up $300 to fix it again)
So I am considering the following options:
1. vhs (cheap but low video grade and they are not too durable)
2. SVHS (better resolution but still not too durable and most of my family does not own SVHS player)
3. VCD (Semi expensive recorder, cheap blank disks, all of my family owns a dvd player BUT not so hot video quality)
4. DVD (Very expensive recorder, blank disk price ??, great video quality)
Now the question what is available for recording VCDs on computer or stand alone recorder. I already know about the Therapin recorder but I am leaning toward the computer VCD recorder if it can be done for less $$$.
The other option is to wait until DVD recorders drop in price right now they still run about $1400.
Let me know what you guys think |
| Personally I think VCD is the way to go. | justin May 15, 2001 4:39 PM | | However you limited to 700mb right now and with a video image, well all I can say is, 8secs okay?.
If your not really concearned about sharing the tapes have you considered using a tape drive for your computer to record the data. You could probably get good quality on these And I guess they would be fairly cheap for their capacity. You may want to look into it. |

All you need is the appropriate software and a CD burner. Only problem with it is that you can only play it on your computer.
