| Connecting DVD to Denon 2801 | satz May 15, 2001 11:02 PM | | I don't currently have a DVD player but wish to borrow one fairly soon and connect to my Denon 2801. The denon is connected to my TV through the video monitor out (for on-screen setup).
DO i just plug the video cable into the video in and the digital audio into the digital audio in?
Guess so, huh?
No tricks?
thanks |
| That is correct. | Smokey May 16, 2001 2:33 AM | | If you want to test run a DVD player, that scenario will work fine. Also you need to switch the reciever to that appropriate input.
But really to take full advantage of DVD player with all its glory, your TV have to have S-video input or component video inputs. Also IMO, if you can bypass your reciever and directly hook up video strait from DVD player or any other video source to your TV, you are giving your TV the best possible video signal.
Do you have more than one monitor input( RCA video plugs)on your TV? |

| No need | SoundsGood May 16, 2001 11:30 AM | | You can play cd's with the optical connection. |
| Thanks all... | satz May 16, 2001 4:54 PM | | Thanks for the advice/confirmation...
Now I just have to get a DVD player! |
| Sounds good. | Smokey May 17, 2001 1:39 AM | | As SoundGood suggested, there is no need for analog output from DVD player to your reciever to take advantage of playing CD on your DVD player. But, you have to make sure your DVD player's Digital output is set to PCM Digital output, and your reciever Digital input to automatic or PCM digital input.
Take care. |
| Smokey.... | SoundsGood May 17, 2001 11:40 AM | | Mine is set to bitstream. It is my understanding that by doing so the receiver does the D/A conversion and the DAC's are usually better quality in the receiver than the DVD players. Thus resulting in better sound quality. But the DVD player does distinquish between CD and DVD (LED's for stereo, 5.1) so maybe it automatically switches the digital output. Maybe Im way off on this one. I check when I get home. |
| SoundsGood | Smokey May 17, 2001 3:22 PM | | Every DVD player and Reciever will activate its selection menu differently. Some of them do it automaticly and some of them you have to do it manually. To really know for sure is look at your menu selection and ,or specification manual of Rec. and DVDp.
BTW, Bitstream is same as PCM( Pulse Code Modulation).
Take care. |
