Playstation 2 Hook Up to A/V Recieiver - Can it be doneJackson

Can the playstation 2 be hooked up to my HT system and would it produce DD/DTS sound.

Can most A/V recievers accomodate a DVD, VCR, and Playstation 2. What source input would I have to use.

Thanks in advance

Yes - all you need is a DD/DTS reciever with an optical digital input - and you can watch dvds in Dolby Digital/ or DTS on your PS2.

You need to find a reciever with enough digital inputs for your needs:
I am using a Yamaha HTR 5460 (twin to RXV620):
has 4 optical and 1 coax digital inputs.
I am using:
1 optical for cd, and 1 optical for PS2 (i am using the PS2 as my dvd player- until I decide which DVD player I want for my HT).
Just make sure your reciever has enough inputs (and the right type of inputs) for your needs.

I have one hooked to a Yamaha HTR-5280 (RX-V800). A couple of notes.

I had to buy an RCA to S-video converter from Radio Shack as my DSS and other video inputs were all S-Video. This little gem was on the order of $35. The inputs have to match the output from the Reciever to the Monitor (TV). If I used the RCA from the Playstation I would have had to downgrade all of my other video inputs to RCA; i. e. at least my amp (and most are the same) will not convert the video inputs to a different video output type.

I used the optical connection for audio. I could have used the RCA jacks but the sound was much better with the optical link. This cable was $40.

Secondly. I dont have any problems with DD but have never been able to get it to work with DTS. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

They do make an s-video (as well as component cable) for the PS2- plugs in the same way the RCA cables plugs in. They only cost $10-15 for the cheap version.
MonsterCable also makes the s-video, and component video cables for the ps2- they run around $40 I believe.

For DTS- on your yamaha -make sure the input menu for DVD is on AUTO or DTS - and you shouldnt have a prob.

why didn't you just use the PS2 S-Video connection instead of converting it?
