| Bi /DiPole vs direct radiators in a large and long room?? | Lance Romance May 16, 2001 8:32 PM | | There are 2 camps, both tell you they are right and we the consumer get few chances to compare apples to apples...The guys who are 2 channel purists and can make great speakers but refuse to make a real effort with center channels and dipoles............. and those who will at least offer the latter but build midline or below with a few exceptions.
I have used direct radiators in the rear channels for years and they are great but they are truly not sound the way it was meant to be heard. what's your opinion? |
| Actually...... | BK May 17, 2001 6:36 AM | | direct is the way the rear channels were meant to be heard. But, for ht non-directional (bipole, dipole) will give you a more enveloping sound, imho. I used to have bipoles as my rears, and now have directs. I personally do not care for dipoles, and would go bipolar again. Music is more a priority for me, 5 channel in particular, so I replaced my bipoles with some direct. But I have to say my bipoles were better for ht. It's all personal preferance, and I would suggest listening to all 3 before buying, but if you want a nice balance between direct, dipole, go with bipolars. They will give you that enveloping soundstage, but will give you better focus and clarity than dipoles. Good luck |

This way you get the best of both worlds. You get the spaciousness of the dipole, plus the localization of the monopole. This works especially well in wide, long rooms.
