| Denon AVR and the Klipsch | firecracker Jul 4, 2001 2:57 PM | | This is my first post in this messageboard but I think it is going to be more. Just got my Denon AVR3801 and klipsch RF3 and RC3 speakers. I use a 120w sub, and satellite rears too. Shall the speaker settings be small or large for the klipsch speakers? I think i´ve got every thing else set up correctly, the manual isn´t much help though..
I currently have the mains as large and the center as small. Watched Gladiator today and i can only say WOWOWOWOWOW. It sounds absolutly fantastic!! The big battle in the begining really shakes my livingroom.
Thanx!! |
| re: Denon AVR and the Klipsch | Adam Jul 4, 2001 5:10 PM | | I have the same front setup. Set them all to small as well as your rears. After speaking with Klispc (Trey over at Tech Support) he informed me that the Klipsch RF3 are not rated accurately. In all reality they are great down to about 57 and the RC3 down to 67. Given that I would say that if you set them to LARGE then you will be really missing out from 57hz and below from the fronts and 67hz and bleow on the center. What sub are you using, out of curiosity. Glad you enjoy the setup. |
| Sub | firecracker Jul 5, 2001 12:20 AM | | Thanks for answering! I don´t know exactly what sub i have, it´s not very good. I think it is a sony, pioneer or canton or something like that. The model name is AS20. I am going to buy a new one soon, any good suggestions? No to pricey though ;) |
| Budget? | Adam Jul 5, 2001 8:29 AM | | GIve us all some parameters to work with and we'll find you one. I could easily reccomend:
Klipsch KSW-15
Adire Rava
Veoldyne CT-120
HS VTF
All of these are in the 400.00 range. |
| Budget? | firecracker Jul 5, 2001 9:34 AM | | Well 400-500$ is ok! |
| Then Any Of Those I mentioned Would be Fine | Adam Jul 5, 2001 9:48 AM | | Go have a listen... |
| If you can spend $500, the Hsu VTF-2 is the one to beat. | bigwally Jul 5, 2001 10:22 AM | | It has been shown to play louder and deeper than any other manufactured sub in it's price class. |
| I agree with Adam... | Debra Jul 5, 2001 3:42 PM | | Usually set the mains, center and rears to small with a sub.If the two mains are set to large, and the center to small, it will tend to drown out dialogue on movies. The overally theory is to let the speakers do what they do best and refer the low bass to the sub only which is much less directional. I have found one exception....once in a while when I listen to "muddy" 60s or 70s rock where I want maximum "noise" and rumble vs clarity, I might switch the mains and center to large. I and my friends have experimented many times with remote in hand and the small position is generally the cleanest with a sub. |
