5.1 vs. 7.1 vs. mains vs. moneybeerme1

Hi all. I just keep going round and round , just when my my mind is more or less settled on the 3801 a friend says WHY? Take the money you were going to put into two additional speakers and upgrade your mains and get a Marantz sr7000 or wait for whatever the replacement is going to be as it will more than likely have 6.1 etc. etc. Im not sure that I can disagree, any input good or bad will be helpful. I am not going to purchase this for a couple of months so I have time. I just want to be comfortable with my choices if thats possible. This is where my current plans are.

Rec. Denon 3801
Sub. SVS 20-39pc
speakers. 6 Paradigm Studio 20
Center. Paradigm reference center
DVD Panasonic RP91
SVHS any make, recomendations appreciated.
CD a 5 disc carousel no specific brand.
Video game console only one, X BOX
TV. Toshiba 56H80 or the new widescreens 57H81 or 50H81
Maybe my friends right. Im not sure of the price jump but I think I would go up to Studio 60 or 80s for my mains.
And a partridge in a pear tree.

Thanks again all.

Unless you're in a very large room or a dedicated hometheater and have the budget to support the upgrade whim of the day, I'm not sure I'd buy into more than 5.1. A properly implemented 5.1 system will provide all the surround effect you'll probably want or need. It never hurts to have hardware that will support future upgrades but at this point I'd concentrate on buying the speakers you find most pleasing.
