Deciding on the right receiver...01
Jul 5, 2001 6:19 AM
Hello!

I am facing I very difficult decision regarding my next A/V Receiver. I have narrowed my search to the Denon AVR5800 and the Harman Kardon AVR8000. As of now I am leaning more towards the H/K. ANY INPUT WOULD BY GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
At their price point......BK

I would seriously look into separates. Just my thought though.

Another option would be to get a lower end HK or Denon, and add a separate 5 channel amp, using the receiver as the pre/pro. There are some really good 5 channel amps out there like the Anthem MCA-5, which you should be able to get for $1100-1300. Mate that with a receiver like the 3300 (cheap money) if you can find one, and you've got a very nice system for around $1700 or so. That imho will be a better performer than the 5800, or the HK.

Quite a few options here. Or you can get a high quality Rotel separates combo for the same money as the 5800.

Between the 2 manufacturers you mention, I like Denon.

Good luck.

I'm with you. I like Harman Kardon also. I auditioned many AVR's before settling on my HK 510.

Hey there
I was also stuck in your shoes a few weeks ago. After doing much research looking for an AV reciever, I have decided to go with a Rotel. Denon has the points for Home theater and Rotel for 2channel music. Comparing at equal price range. Two of my friends have an HK and would highly not recommend it. Reasons as to why I did not ask. Sorry.
