Can anybody give some advice on selecting an appropriately rated surge protector? Also, any suggestions on affordable component video cables?

Thanks, Adam

Hi Adam

Any surge protectors that have 1500 joules ratings or higher should be fine. The more joules value it have it can absorb more spikes and surges that can cause by near lightning and line fluctuation. Also if you can get a surge protector with a Grounding post would be awesome. You can use the grounding post to ground your Audio/Video component for better noise protection against the environments noise.

For Component-Video cables I would suggest RadioShack Gold series Component-Video cables. It is gold plated and quality constructed. Also bets Buy have AR component-video cables that are slightly more expensive. Both type of cables should be fine for your applications.
Do not get them tiny, flimsy RCA cables from RadioShack. They have tendency to break easily and their shielding leave something to be desired.

Good luck
