With the hyper-obsolesence built in to today's AV gear (especially receivers), why would anyone pay near list for a reciever? On e-bay or even at many on-line sites, you can buy products less than a year old for maybe 1/3 of retail! The only thing you might give up is THX EX or DTS ES, no loss IMO.

Examples: Pioneer Elite VSX-37 for around $800.00 List is 2k
H-K AVR-7000 for $780.00 (recently at Fry's) list is $1,500 The big NAD for $480.00 List was $1,600
Denon AVR-97 for $300.00 List is $800
Many more examples you can find. Some units might lack DTS or hi-rez DAC's, but often you'll have these in your DVD players anyway; just use the 5.1 analog inputs.

Any thoughts?

Recently picked up my pre/pro in mint condition with all original packaging. MSRP was $4K and paid $550.00, shipped. This beast kicks some serious *ss in music and HT performance and with looks and build to match.

I also assume that there will be some great deals on current models shortly as DPL II equiped receivers and pre/pros become readily available.
