could somebody tell me if making the jump to thx will really make a huge difference in a home theater set up, should everything be thx certified?

THX certification is a set of standards set by a dude by name of Gearge Lucas. The standards set are to do with Frequency ranges and basically loudness of the system. You don't have to make that jump to THX, because part of the jump is paying for the certification. There are receivers out there that do just as well without the THX label. However I have found that Onkyo makes the cheapest reciever (that I've come across) that has THX certification.
There is also 2 levels of THX, ULTRA and Select. Ultra being the superior, but if you want spec. comaprison do some reasearch. Select is pretty much pointless to have, it's just another way for royalties. Anyways as I was mentioning the onkyo... and for the same price you can have a reciever that does not have THX certification like Rotel. Happy hunting.
