| Is it my imagination or do a lot of DVD players seem to... | Worf101 Aug 13, 2001 9:12 AM | | suck!!???? I won't recount my tale of woe with my brand new Pioneer DV-C603 player. Suffice to say the f***in' thing's still in the shop a month and a half later. I was actively searching this site to find a replacement (assuming I get my refund from Pioneer which I'm now demanding), and after reading reviews of many different brands I've reached the conclusion that a lot of mulitdisc DVD/CD players really, really, suck. They don't work out of the box, or they stop working after a few months, or they just plain suck. It seems to be an industry wide problem. You can't get a highly rated DVD player that works right for under a grand. Well, I tell you folks one thing, I'm two inches from calling it quits on this technology for a while. Wake me up when the cheap b*****d's get it right. Da Pissed Off cause I been pissed on Worfster!!! |
| Tosh SD3109, year and a half, working great! | Josh Studrawa Aug 13, 2001 9:31 AM | | Just to piss you off more :) It's only a 2 tray, maybe cuz it doesn't have the changer it's okay?
Unless mine sucks and I'm missing it? If so, don't tell me what's wrong with it. I believe in blissful ignorance.
For real though... Screw everyone else and their reveiws. They put the disc in upside-down anyway. Give it one more go, will ya? Grab a different company, and join the DVD crowd. C'mon, I know ya want to... |
| re: Is it my imagination or do a lot of DVD players seem to... | Brad- Aug 13, 2001 9:54 AM | | Reliability sucks on "ALL" electronics, not just DVD Players. Getting a working product out of the box isn't a sure thing anymore.
As far as DVD Players go, I had problems with a 2nd generation player but the newer players are much better and usually glitch free since the format matured. I've had 3 DVD Players and only had problems with the 1 2nd generation player. My last upgrade was to a multiDVD player and it's been running strong over a year with excellent performance(Panasonic CV50). |
| re: Is it my imagination or do a lot of DVD players seem to... | rusty zipper Aug 13, 2001 10:16 AM | | Albeit a single disc player, my Pioneer DV-333 I use for music and movies has always played without so much as one glitch--I've never even seen one of these so called layer changes. Of course, I did quite a bit of research also, on mid priced DVDP's before I made a purchase, which included carousel models and heeded many of the warnings you are describing, again, specifically with the carousel models--then opted for just a single tray player--figuring the extra exercise wouldn't hurt me anyway. At least I'm very satisfied with my purchse and I like to think I did indeed choose the right player that suited my needs--through what I believe would have been a much more extensive research than yours, (no offense), but the facts were there if you dug deep enough. I also think it's a mistake on your part to give up totally on the technology, because you purchased a lemon for a player. I also believe after the smoke clears, you will be able to view things more clearly. Try and stay positive, come out fighting, and give it another try. C'mon, I know you love new technology, just as I do.
Peace, R.Z. |
| really | Adam Aug 13, 2001 10:20 AM | | Hmmm I hada a panasonic DVD-A120 for 3 years with no hassles at all. I has a JVC 567GD 3 Tray model for 6 months and had no issues and the person I sold it to has had no issues either. Right now I have a JVC 723GD and have had 0 issues. |
| Adam!!! You said *I* was the only person you ever | Josh Studrawa Aug 13, 2001 10:35 AM | | sold used HT equipment to!!!! You two-timer!!! |

| ... not my Apex | Mike S. Aug 13, 2001 12:14 PM | | My little $160 Apex (from Chinese company called VDDV) unit has not given me any problem in over a year and a half with moderate-to-heavy use. No reliability problems, anyway -- I have had a hang or two with MP3 discs and a couple lip-sync issues, but nothing major. For all the features and video output quality, it was $160 well-spent IMO. |
| I have an Apex, also | Norm Strong Aug 13, 2001 2:19 PM | | Mine has been excellent. It was the first DVD player that met my requirements, and it has worked flawlessly for the same lenth of time. |
| What the hell is this... | nick4433 Aug 13, 2001 5:44 PM | | A DVDA(DVD Anonymous) forum?
In that case I had my Panny A110 for more than 2years and no probs. My Onkyo DVC-601 for 2 months and no probs. |
| re: Is it my imagination or do a lot of DVD players seem to... | ILuvDTS Aug 13, 2001 8:34 PM | | Well....I have a Panasonic DVD A-110 That everybody claims was the worst DVD Player ever made. But...I've had this baby for 3 years and still working flawlessly. I keep it in an open place and clean the lens and tracks every six months or so. I also have a Samsung 709 in my bedroom and had no problem with it so far! |
