I hooked a Denon receiver to my TV and get no picture. I connected the receiver Monitor out to the TV input. I did not do one connection in the manual which is TV video out to the receiver TV video in.

Do I need need this connection.

Thanks

The Denon has to be set at the input the TV is on. Meaning: To watch a VCR tape, you need the Denon to be on and set to VCR1 (assuming the audio and video are input into VCR1 on the Denon). Otherwise no picture (and no sound of course).

No idea about the TV video in on receiver. No clue why you'd want that connection.
No, Lauren, you don't need that connectionwoodman

Josh told you right (so far as he went). He failed to mention that you also have to select the proper INPUT on the TV set as well. In the old days, TVs only had one input, and that was the "F" connector for the connection of an antenna of some sort or "cableTV".

In more recent years, TV sets have more than one input, in fact some sets have a bunch. So it becomes necessary for the viewer to select the input he/she wants. Consult the operating manual for your TV to see how your particular set changes the inputs. Some sets have extensive menu systems that have to be gone through to do input switching, while others provide actual dedicated buttons (on the remote and/or the front panel) to get the job done.

The video INPUT on the Denon receiver is for a different type hookup scenario altogether and one you needen't concern yourself with. Just connect whatever devices you have to the Denon and output the video from the Denon to the TV set.

If you have further questions, "I'm here for you"

If your TV have enough video inputs ( Component for DVD player, S-Video for Satellite/Digital cable and Composite for VCR/Analog cable ) to accommodate all of your A/V gear' video output, then the best route would be to by pass the A/V Receiver and go strait from the device video out to TV' video input. This will ensure maximum signal transfer without possibility of noise interference from the A/V Receiver switching circuitry.

You can also run Cable from your Satellite or cable box to your TV's Coax( RF ) input to listen to these sources thru your TV internal speaker ( late night viewing ) without turning your whole system on.

Good luck.
