| Receiver Features | descentr Aug 14, 2001 8:53 AM | | I am looking to get a receiver somewhere in the $500 price range. Since I believe that the "best" receiver is generally a matter of personal preference, I would like to ask what features I should be looking for in a new receiver.
I know I want DD & DTS, s-video switching for sure, and probably compnent switching if I can get it. Other than that, I'm not sure what differentiators there are out there.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Mike |
| You may want... | nick4433 Aug 14, 2001 9:01 AM | | DPL-II (Dolby Pro Logic-II)
At least 5.1 ins for DVD-Audio
A decent Remote control and OSD
Is 6.1 important to you? i.e. DD-EX and DTS-ES Discrete/Matrix.
There is a Pioneer VSX-810 or some model that will give you all the features except DPL-II and DTS-ES Discrete. Also check the new Marantzs out and they will do everything except DTS-ES Discrete. |
| question for nick4433. | Mike L Aug 14, 2001 10:47 AM | | I've read that the SR-7200 does do DTS-ES discrete in an article at widescreenreview.com. It says the SR-5200, SR-6200, and SR-7200 all do DTS-ES disrete. It this information false. |
| *hands Nick the can of worms marked Marantz DTS-ES* | Josh Studrawa Aug 14, 2001 11:08 AM | | Pop that top, buddy! |

| MIKE.... | nick4433 Aug 14, 2001 1:18 PM | | So Widescreen says it is DTS-ES Discrete and you will take that as Gospel? But on the other hand, Marantz's own website has never made this claim. How many times should I repeat this? I guess as many times as I have to! Marantz is not DTS-ES Discrete, at least the 7200 and below. Can you show mw proof either on the Receivers or Marantz's website? |
| What's DTS ES? nt | Adam Aug 14, 2001 1:29 PM | | |
| DTS is... | nick4433 Aug 14, 2001 1:47 PM | | DTS= Does this Sound? ES= Extra Sound
Did you got to Serar and pick up the "Rack" system I told you about?
The rack system will come with a disc and once you hook up your system and all the Big and Small speakers that come with it, insert this in the CD player(included) and you should hear a question, Does This Sound?
At this time say "Yes" if you can hear it and "No" if you can't. Repeat this test until you nod a "Yes". Good Luck Buddy. |

| DTS-ES definition... | Josh Studrawa Aug 14, 2001 1:49 PM | | DTS-ES: 6 channels of complete ass-whoopin, followed up real fast by a HUGE .1 kick to the nuggets.
I think that's straight from Nick's dictionary. |

| re: Receiver Features | 606zpx Aug 14, 2001 1:41 PM | | I am not certain why some people are so wound up about why the Marantz 7200 is DTS discrete or not. There is no receiver of comparable quality in that price range that is.....so it is no big mystery as to why this piece does not have that feature. The Denon 3802 suggested retail is $350 more. Of course you get more power and features. I just picked up the 7200 for around 725 and am happy with this. I think the 6200 is the best deal going right now and can probably be had for around 600 if you dicker. |
