| Newbie with a dumb bose related question. Sort of | Seahawksarenext Aug 14, 2001 11:15 AM | | I have been listening to a system consisting of a $200 kenwood digital reciever and some cheap technic speakers(I think I spent 50 bucks for the pair). Last week I got lucky and was able to purchase a Denon 3802 from a friend for $600(long story), two sonus faber concertinos for $600 and a sonus faber solo center speaker for $300. Last night I watched The World Isn't Enough and was blown away by the sound. I watched the whole time with a smile on my face. Quick question I know it sounds incredible, but are my ears shaped by years of poor equipment or should I be completely happy with what I have? Keep in mind that I used to be blown away by my friends bose system. Just want to make sure this isn't the same thing. |
| Doubt it | Bryan Aug 14, 2001 11:31 AM | | You went from some lack of frequency response speakers to some cheap have frequency speakers to some excellent equipment! Or, another way of putting it is you went from very low fi to mid low fi to high mid fi. Just wait to you add a couple of SF surrounds and a sub! I think you took a big step up in this world. In answer to your other question: No. This isn't the same thing. |
| Put it this way... | Josh Studrawa Aug 14, 2001 11:40 AM | | You've been sleeping with Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. Then you slept with the cool chick from Drew Carey. Now you've married Jennifer Esposito from Spin City.
You're thinking that anything will be better than Mimi. But you done good. Nice picks. And tell us the Denon 3802 story, we've got all workday long :) |
| It's not really that long(the story), but here goes | seahawksarenext Aug 14, 2001 11:59 AM | | My buddy and I have been friends since the mid 80's. We used to play horse and one on one basketball all the time. No matter what game we played he always won. Well the LAST time we played(13 years ago) I had him at H-o-r-s. I walked to mid court, turned around and put the ball in one hand. He laughed and said if I made that shot he would give me $500 dollars. Well the stars were in alignment that day, because I flipped the ball over my head, a line-drive that somehow went straight into the basket. I tried to get that money from him every year. Never happened. Well this year, he got married. Fortunately for me he got a Denon 3802 and a Onkyo something or other as gifts. Instead of returning it he sold it to me and finally antied up on the $500. |
| Hey man, nice shot. And enoy :) (nt) | Josh Studrawa Aug 14, 2001 12:15 PM | | |

| Your ears are fine, and so are your friend's wedding guests! | PhilS Aug 15, 2001 12:59 PM | | No, your ears haven't been ruined forever by lousy speakers and components. However, human acoustic memory is very short, and while you may remember being "blown away" by all of these systems, a side-by-side comparison will quickly help you distinguish the difference between what you had and what you have now. BTW, if I ever move on to wife #2, I'd like to invite some of the people from your friend's wedding to my wedding - they know what to buy for the lucky couple!!! |
