| Center Channel Placement... above or below | Duane Aug 14, 2001 5:29 PM | | I have a 36" Toshiba tv (34"W x 30"H) and am about to build a entertainment center. The TV will be sitting approx. 20" off the floor.
Question: Should place the center channel speaker below the TV, making it about 12" off the floor, or place it directly above the TV on a wall shelf, making it about 50" off the floor?
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Go with the wall shelf but raise the back feet a little to put the center at an angle shooting down to your listening level. This might take some experimentation to get just the right angle, but IMO would be better than close to the floor. |

But, for most people that would mean you wouldn't see the TV. Or, you buy a projector with an acoustically transparent screen and put it behind the screen. I have had good results with putting my center on a stand below the screen but I have it angled up so that it is firing directly at my listening position. In either case it should be along the same plane (distance in relation to listening area) as the main speakers. Have Fun! |
| The Arc for the front three... | Kam Aug 15, 2001 11:24 AM | | I might be wrong in this, but I always thought there should be an arc (the bend of the arc moving away from the listening position) with respect to the L/R and the center so that the center is recessed in/ or the mains are a little further out then the center channel.
I have tried my set up both ways, with my front flat with the mains and pushed back some more and personally i like the pushed back. Maybe it just adds depth to the base of the center being closer to the wall. |
