| What would you do next | Seahawksarenext Aug 15, 2001 7:55 AM | | Here is where I stand right now.
Receiver: Denon 3802
Main speakers: Sonus Faber Concertinos
Center speaker: Sonus Faber Solo center
Rears: Infinity IL-10
Subwoofer:9 year old Aiwa sub(sounds best when in the off position)
CD player: 9 year old Technics
DVD player: Toshiba 1200
Television: 43 inch Hitachi HD television
How I feel: Love the reciever and will stick with it for a few years(or so I think). I'm happy with the Sonus speakers. Ultimatly I want to move the Concertinos to the rear, the IL-10's to my bedroom and buy the Concerto home(or equivalent) for my mains.
How much I have in my budget: $500. I could spend it or save for better future purposes
What I want(In my book all have an equal level of importance so don't confuse my disdain for the subwoofer with need. I'm not a base dependent person):
1.)A new subwoofer. My current one is used mainly to scare the cat.
2.)A new cd player so that I can move my current one to the bedroom
3.)A SACD or DVD Audio player if it's worthwhile
4.)Progressive Scan DVD to go with the television
5.)A two channel amp--only if experts deem this necessary with the Denon
6.)Better cables---All my cables are cheap
7.)tivo--wish list
8.)Another set of speakers for 7.1 sound
Like I said I could spend $500 now and not feel guilty(well kind of), but I am also willing to put some money aside and wait for closer to high end products. I was just curious what others would do if they were in my situation. I'm new to the game so product suggestions would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance. |
| If I were you.... | nick4433 Aug 15, 2001 8:39 AM | | I'd invest my time into listening to some good CDs and watching some good DVDs and just sit back and enjoy. I feel that upgrades done in a hurry are always the wrong ones and you will feel the need to change this or that constantly.
So just kick back and let some time go by and see what you reaaly need and get the best one in your price range. |
| Upgrade the sub | Bryan Aug 15, 2001 10:37 AM | | Either get a HSU VTF-2, Adire Audio Rava (Dharma can be had for $550 right now but I could be mistaken on that), or a SVS 25-31CS and something to power it with. If you have something laying around the house you can use as an amp, get the 20-39CS. That will make the biggest improvement in your system. |
