HTB choicesDaniel Amsler

Well, in searching for an upgrade to take me into the world of DD5.1 & DTS I've run across the following candidates. Each one is in my budget range and has small satillite speakers, a must in a one bedroom apartment where I don't need to shake things off the walls. The contenders are:

Yamaha YHTB-1
Sony STR-DE575 + SA-VE325 (Receiver & speaker combo)
Pioneer HTP-3000
Kenwood HTB 504

Any comments on my candidates?

I was looking in my latest Sears catalog and saw Denon had a HTB. 100W X 5 channels and supported DD/DTS. Included a sub too. It was on sale for $550 through October 20. It had a Sears part number of 98071. From a receiver point of view, Denon and Yamaha are my first picks. From there, use your ears to pick the one with the best speakers. There were some positive comments on a Kenwood HTB (not sure if it was the same as you have picked out) on this site. You may want to scroll down a day or two and see if you can find it.

The Kenwood would be my choice. The correct price is $400.
I've heard the Kenwood and vote for it too :) (nt)nick4433

Thanks, but in my case I'm speaking in Canadian dollars (or should that be pesos >.<) The Kenwood looks to be the system I'm gonna get but does anyone know how badly the sound will be impacted if I have to leave the speakers on the floor? (The mounting system from 3M I was looking at using isn't likely to put up with that much weight, cause drilling into the walls of a rental apartment is a non-starter I'm afraid :P)

the other day i saw a new system by sony the DAV-C900 that had a 5 dvd/cd-rw/SACD changer with 70 watts per channel, 4 sexy looking towers, a center and a 100watt sub. it sounded reasonable in the sony store, but i could not make a real good observation because of all the other noise.

u can see it here, http://www.mysimon.com/buy/index.jhtml?c=hometheatersystems&v=1&m=7920&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amdv.com%2Fdetail2.tpl%3Fproductid%3D6006

i guess if it lacks something in the sound dept. it sure makes up in sex appeal :-)

is anyone else familiar with this one ?
