Home theater speaker for apartment.....GLWeeks

Could I get some advice.... Getting ready to replace my 13 Year old Onkyo(with another) and break into the wonderful world of DD5.1 . I have a couple Bose 301's(want to use as the front main speakers).... What would be a good setup to complete this with? I live in a apartment so I don't want to blow the walls out.... Thank You!

PS: Maybe something I could still use if I replace the Bose later on....

Size room? You may also want to look into selling the 301s in order to have additional money for a new system. Perhaps even hold onto your old Onkyo and use it to power a sub (SVS CS models).

Well the room is small... My entertainment center is about 9 feet out from the seating.... Room is about 13' x 16'

My Onkyo is 13-14 years old... It is pre-Pro Logic....

What about the Paradigm® Cinema setup?

Paradigm normally puts out some pretty good speakers. In this instance, I'd be tempted to stay away from the Cinema series. The speakers are rated 125Hz - 20,000Hz +- 4.8db (average). That is unacceptable. The sub, OTOH, is an excellent one. You may want to look at packages from Ascend Acoustics or Axiom. Perhaps even something from nOrh or Def Tech. The Onkyo may be that old, but it still can be used to power a SVS CS series sub without any problem. Good subs generally run $400 on up and speaker packages from $750 on up. There are always exceptions to that rule but that is a general rule. Good luck!
