Need Info on DTS ES and Neo 6Mark Wo

I currently own a Yamaha RX-V1050 that I have had for years. It is a great receiver but is limited to Dolby Pro Logic and Pro Logic Enhanced. I recently purchased some new Paradigm Studio 40's with the appropriate center channel and surround speakers and bouhgt a DVD player. I believe that the weak link (good-bye) in my system is now the RX-V1050. I have a few questions:

1. What is DTS ES and DTS ES matrix 6.1 decoding?
2. What is Neo 6?
3. What does a 12V trigger do? I own a Sony ES CD player that cannot be turned on remotely, would the 12V trigger allow this to happen?
4. Dobly Pro Logic 2 allows me to use and 2 channel input and make it into suround I believe. This way I can watch a car race or football game in surround - correct?
5. Any comments on the RX-V1200 vs the RX-V2200. I currently have 120 watts/channel with the RX-V1050 and am wondering if the 80W/channel on the RX-V 1200 is adequeat? Comments?
6. Will I really like the difference between DPL and Dolby Digital when playing DVD's and what not?
7. What do I do with the RX-V1050? Too bad I can't make this receiver into a Dolby Digital capable unit.

Thanks for the help. I have used this site exclusively in my most recent purchases.

DTS-ES which stands for extended surround is a new format which involves 6 speakers and a sub. It adds one more speaker at the back. DTS-ES Discrete is a format in which all 6 channels are receiving their own independant signals or are fully discrete. Thus a DTS-ES Discrete decoder sends appropriate signals to all 6 channels. These are all full frequency 20-20,000 Hz.
DTS-ES Matrix is still 5.1 but it adds a Back channel which is derived from the 2 surround speakers and is not discrete, thus matrixed.
DTS-Neo is a format which converts any 2 channel stereo source to a full 5.1 format. Making it sound more fuller with a livelier soundstage. This comes in 2 flavors, Movies and Music.
Dolby Pro Logic-II or DPL-II does the same as DTS-Neo but uses a different algorithm than DTS-Neo and so you will find both of them sounding slightly different.
Yes, you will like the difference between old DPL and Dolby Digital. Not only that, but you will find DPL-II and DTS-Neo much more better than old DPL.
I really don't think that you will truly hear a difference between a 80W vs 100W receiver in terms of power at comfortable listening levels but in the overall scheme of things, the 2200 should play cleaner at higher volumes. Hope this helped.

Thanks Nick, most helpful. I'm not a loud music kind-of guy so maybe the rx-v1200 will work ($300 less and I'll never use the dual zone feature of the rx-v2200)

Any comment on what a 12V trigger does. To me a perfect feature would be that the 12V trigger allows you to push a button on the receiver remote that turned on my CD player that is plugged into the receiver. Rihgt now I can have my CD player plugged into the receiver but it comes on everytime I power up the receiver. AS I watch as much home theater as I do listen to music, I don't like having the CD player on during this time. Still can't beleive that a Sony ES changer does not have remote on - duh?

Forgot one last question, is .04% THD good enouhg? The old rx-v1050 was at .05%THD. Wondering how much lower THD, if it is a valid measurement, can go.

Triggers are generally intended for other devices which you want to power up along with the receiver, but which consume too much power to allow you to plug them into the receiver's switched outlets (i.e. external amplifiers or active speakers.)

The 12 V trigger is for remote On/Off switching I believe. Although it exists on my 898, I haven't really used it. I beleive when you switch the receiver on, it activates the 12V trigger input and swithches on any remote devices. Maybe someone else can explain it better than I can.
.04%THD is pretty decent.
